I'm not sure if anyone posted this directly, it's just crazy.

Read the whole article and crazy video on the London Cyclist.

I didn't even know there was a over focus on high-viz. Still plenty of ninja cyclists where I ride.

But it's true that no amount of safety equipment will help if you ride in blind spots.

This is a very good point. I've also found that good positioning in the lane has forced most drivers to overtake me safely (and nobody really hassles me about it where I ride - they just pass).

This article is still all about high-vis; only it's the lorry driver that's sitting "high" and the cyclists who need to be vis(ible) to said lorry drivers.

I'm heading to the U.K. day after tomorrow, but my cycling there will be in the countryside and not in London; though I would like to have a go at that sometime too.

First off, the mirrors are not properly positioned and then they jacked the cab at an angle to insure nothing could be seen. In a real life situation with a cab jacked like that, any cyclist would be a fool to NOT understand the truck is turning as soon as the light turns green.

Watch out for those single lane roads... I remember riding from RAF Upper Heyford to Bicester and it was no picnic.

The other benefit to this is not flinching when a door opens in front of me which is at least a weekly event.

Very misleading headline, suggesting that high-viz clothing provides no benefits. If you read the article, they are just pointing out that paying attention to blind-spots is equally important. Duh. That doesn't in any way take away from the benefits of high-viz clothes. Not all of us are riding on urban streets surrounding by large trucks. Most of my commute is on neighborhood and suburban streets mostly used by cars, SUVs, light-duty trucks and some school buses. For me, it's all about visibility -- from lighting to clothes to avoiding blind spots.

+1

I agree with the general sentiments of the article, but it's poorly composed and the title is super misleading.
