Would anyone trade a..

2011 Trek 7.2FX for a Trek 1.1/1.2 (older model, 2009 or so?). I'm not asking any of you directly, but I am generally speaking. I love the FX but it already feels slow, and I miss my old road bike.

You try throwing skinnier tires on there yet?

I agree with the feel of the FX compared to road bike. I'm still trying to figure out why my hybrid feels so different than road. If you don't like riding your FX trading it for a bike you will ride would be a good thing. The 2009 1.1 is 2200 but the 2009 1.2 is Sora. The 7.2 is a $550 bike and you would be trading up for the 1.2.

I found a 2011 Trek 1.5 for $700 so I figured that I could trade my 7.2 for a 2010 or earlier 1.1 or 1.2 model. If not I'll just sell my 7.2 so I can put that money towards the 1.5.

Someone did their homework for pricing the bike. I see two Trek 1.5 bikes that sold on ebay for $700 and one for $625. If that CL bike is in good shape $700 is probably a fair price. May sure the bike fits you. Otherwise, be patient and wait for the right bike. From what I have read, Tiagra read derailleur is quite a bit better than Sora. The front derailleur is often the next group down to keep the cost down. There was a recent thread where people said the Tiagra STI shifters are a whole lot better than Sora (I don't know what Sora shifters look like but they are not STI). I also recommend the 9 speed over the 8 speed. I think the incremental cost to get the 1.5 will be worth it in the long run.

Sure as long as the older bike was in good shape. Around here the Trek FX line is the most popular hybrid so it demands the best prices. If you look around you may be able to find a very good deal on a used road bike without shelling out any money once you sold your fx.
