Just curious...

Is there any difference in build between the normal Fuji line and the Police line? Also has anyone ever owned or knew someone that owned a Smith & Wesson police bike?

Have seen a few up close during public events. The cops are always co-operative in allowing me to check their bikes out when I explain I'm a cyclist. The S&W bikes are(were?) made by Trek. Cannondale used to make patrol bikes. Don't know if they do anymore. They're usually mid-range to top-of-the-line comps depending on how seriously the cycle-patrol is taken in any given police dept.

They're all, basically the same bikes. Butt-welded aluminum frames w/suspension forks. Semi-knobby street tires w/a triple crankset and 8/9 speed cassette. Afa the ones I've seen and inspected close up there's no appreciable difference in the patrol models and what you or I might get off the shelf. Except for the 'Patrol Bike' designation on some models. Usually, they're ordered through a lbs that gets the maintenance/repair contract as well.

I have a Trek Police bike from the late 90's Its a fun little bike and it was speced to be more urban than the typical mountain bike at the time, but there wasn't anything too special about it except the silent freehub which I don't have on it becasue |I think its to cool to use on my beater winter commuter. LOL I am guessing whoever ordered these bikes could change the specs that they wanted on them because mine doesn't match anything I have seen out there. Its a great bike though and was a steal at a yard sale a couple years ago.
