There used to be an Abus lock holder that relied on plastic loops to hold a U-lock. It held for me for a number of years before one loop broke, making me to turn to the solution above. I still have such an Abus holder on one of the lesser used bikes. I think you should be fine.

conduit is really cheap. Some places sell it in shorter than 10' lengths, but last time I bought some a 10' length was less than $3

I thought this leather u-lock holster looked nice, but depends on the aesthetic of what you are going for with your bike.

Yeah it would go with a bike equipped with a Brooks. Pricey bit of kit, probably costs more than the lock holding it. If there were a simple cordura nylon version perhaps.

I keep my u lock in my milk crate on the back of my bike, along with my back pack. It doesn't rattle and i strategically place the u lock so I can easily grab it and use a melee weapon if such a dire situation were to take place.

I have the Walnut leather U-lock holster and it works pretty well - I don't notice any rattling sounds when riding. My rack is a Blackburn EX-1. The holster is expensive, and I would have preferred something cheaper that looked a bit less pretentious. But it works and I'm glad to have been able to support a local independent craftsperson.

Never had a problem with mine.

I twist the holder in a little so the lock jams up against the seat stay to keep it from rattling. A little electrical tape protects the stay's paint.

Found it! I found a bike lock that doesn't suck! Too bad I had to make it out of PVC and pipe clamps. Still, $10 in materials for a more solid and easy to use bike lock than anything that seems to be out there on the market. I've got it attached to the inside of my topeak super tourist dx.

I like the way that looks, is that far enough back that you don't have to worry about kicking it?

I lock the U lock onto the side of my back rack and then velcro the lock to another part of the rack. Snug as a bug. Leaves plenty of room for my panniers.

For errands around town in between, I use a cable lock that I keep on the top tube.
I don't know why I didn't think of that earlier - I'm going to take my U-lock to work and leave it on the rack there. Thanks for the idea, that is helpful!

Yeah, and it's kind of tucked away, right next to the seat stay, so I don't have any problems. I guess I could've mounted it the other way, but this works just as well

Tubus Locc rear rack, they worked with Abus to make
a lock carrying clip set, for inside the left rack leg.
so no interference with carrying panniers ,
or filling up your main triangle with U lock.

May not work for all situations, but I leave my U-lock locked to the bike rack where I park for my work.

On the other hand, my current lock has a round key and while it's not a kryptonite brand, I'm still sort of nervous that the bic trick might work (I bought it at an lbs on my way up to my first year of college - odd that I just stopped in at a shop on a random town to buy it on a whim, but it's done the job - some 15 years ago).
Ha, I still have my first Kryptonite from 1989 with the circular key. It was in 2009 that I heard it could be opened with a Bic.

I have a Blackburn MTN rear rack and used to slide the lock down one of the sides, but since I added Wald folding baskets I now just strap it on top.

Wow, that takes me back. When I used to use wald racks, I'd throw the lock at the bottom of the rack under my backpack that got strapped down with bungee netting.

On my Abus Granit X 54, their carrying system(Ezy-KF) is superb.

I can usually unclip it and clip it back up with one hand if need be and despite hitting heavy bumps and/or potholes, it has never dislodged.

The first pic shows what goes on the U-Lock shackle and the 2nd pic shows what attaches to the frame of your bike and can be rotated to any angle.

I started off with the USH bracket and hated it.

For Abus, it is Ezy-KF or nothing.

The OP has probably figured something out in the four years since this thread was started, but it still seems worth sharing the Cadillac solution.
