come on a ride with me (an acidfast7 photo-thread production)

Hi!

Why don't you come on a ride with me. It's Pentecost Monday in Germany (federal holiday in Bavaria) and I'll be riding with my gf and her mother (73 yo).

Here's my ride for the day:

We began with a ride into the neighboring village (gotta love the solar panels on the farming barn!)

and then went down along a bike path next to the river (the bike path goes all the way from the Swiss Alps down to Rotterdam (on the Dutch coast.)

and ended up in Memmingen (small southern German city, which actually had quite a US presence after WWII ... you still see some American flags hanging at certain celebrations in tribute to post-war re-construction).

what's this, am I back in Texas? (I lived there for 7 years)...

nope, but the new owner kept the Texas plates for street cred ... it seems

then we were off the cemetery to see the grandmother (pic 8 above is the journey and to show the bike lanes i tend to use in the German countryside.)

after, we road back along the river and stopped at the local hydroelectric damn (the turbine provides for roughly 5000 people.)

then we stopped for some fresh strawberries:

and at a great price (3.30€/kg or roughly 4.50 USD / 2.2 pounds).

we bought 1.7kg and used them to make drinks ... Erdbeer Bowle (Strawberry Bowls ... fresh strawberries, half day German sparkling wine (Sekt) and half Italian sparkling wine (kinda like a Rossini Prosecco) that tastes like strawberries).

then we finished the day by assembling a new gas/charcoal combo BBQ and relaxing outside.

the ride was roughly 50k and I was impressed that the mother (73 yo) had zero problems even though she only had 7 speeds (IGH on the rear).

After I posted I kinda thought you might ask that and almost edited to add: small USAF Base Sembach. Lived in Mehlingen before we moved on base. It's close to Kaiserslautern if that helps. Not to far from you. Learned how to ride a bike there and did ALOT of riding on hills and in the woods. I was a single tracker before it was a thing! We didn't have a lot of access to bikes and learned how to build our own from odd parts. After I broke a frame once I scrounged another from some place. The frame had to be thirty pounds on its own with an very odd shape. Hard to bmx with it but I did great on the downhills! (sorry to hijack your thread, got carried away)
