Just wondering how many of you commute with fenders. I have a full set, front and back. Cheap Chinese ones I bought online in China.

Actually I have two rear fenders added to my bike as I couldnt get front fenders that were long enough.

Only have a front fender on my bike right now, and it doesn't have great coverage. But my rack with trunk box does a good job blocking spray from the back tire. Can't find full fenders here in China, so I'm getting my parents to bring a set of Planet Bike hybrid fenders with them when they come to China for a visit at the end of the month.

@Luke, if you look at the link to my Giant Lava in my sig you can see the fenders I got from Taobao. The front one is a rear one.

I just had fenders put on my bike this weekend. Today would have been a good day to commute to work as a first time with them but it has been raining hard and on and off since Saturday, and I just could not bring myself to bike to work today. It is supposed to rain on and off all week, so I am guessing tomorrow will be my first commute using the new fenders. They come from Nashbar as a birthday present to me from my son.

My main commuter bikes both have fenders, front and rear. However, on nice days when no rain is expected I often ride another bike with no fenders. Lately there has been at least a 20-30% chance of rain every day, so my fenderless bike has been getting little use. I rode it Friday and -- of course -- a huge line of showers came through late in the afternoon. I hung around downtown, ate dinner, drank a few beers and rode home after the rain had quit and the roads were mostly dry. I was tempted to ride one of my fenderless bikes again today but the memories of last Friday are still fresh, so I rode one of my fendered bikes.

- foul-weather hybrid - full fenders front and rear

- 20" folder - full fenders front and rear

- fair-weather road bike - no fenders

Full fenders, all the time. Even when it's dry, there's run-off from automatic sprinklers in the morning.

Picked up my new trek 520 this weekend. Will be used for commuting and touring. I went ahead and had them put fenders front and rear.

If you live where it is a desert, like LA, you may have a different need .

I rarely ride the bike without mudguards, the other 6 have them..

I too used 2 rear ones , on my touring bike, the front tip
attaches to the Low Rider rack's hoop.

I voted "sometimes" because my fixed-gear MTB (used about half the time) has fenders, while the road bikes don't. I bought a set of those "reach-around" brackets for the main road bike, but haven't tried them out yet.

I bought a pair of removable fenders for my bike, with the intention of leaving them off until I needed them. After about a moth, I just left them on as there were too many times when it would rain while I was at work, and then I would get wet on the way home. Always on now.

I have three bikes I regularly commute on and all have full front and rear fenders. If you ride in all weather as I do, fenders are absolutely essential. They not only keep road grime off you, they also keep it off your bike.

I've got fenders on three of the four bikes that I use for commuting. If the weather is nice and the roads are dry, I'll ride the bike with no fenders. The proportion of my bikes with fenders reflects how often that happens.

Full fenders on both the daily rider and its backup. I ride in actual rain only about 1/month, but wouldn't be without them.
And IMHO, the bike you ride to work may be very nice, but it's not a proper commuter without fenders, rack, lights, reflectors and other fredly accoutrements.

Full fenders here (Honjo & Velo Orange hammered, commuter/back-up), with leather mudflaps of varying pedigrees. Although it most often is only a light rain here in Seattle the fenders make a HUGE difference because they keep the spray off my feet and legs. It's nice to feel braver going through some puddles (when you know there isn't a pothole hiding under it). It's also nice not having a muddy stripe on the back of my shorts too! Besides, they look classy and I'm addicted to accessories.

Fenderless for the summer. Actually the rear fender is still on the more utilitarian of my two bikes.

Two words: Dumpster discharge.

Yes, I run fenders on most of my bikes. The ones that don't have them are just waiting to receive them. Even when it isn't raining, there is often A/C condensate drain, sprinkler runoff, and downtown, who knows what. They're handy in rainy weather too.

Full fenders all the time.

One of my fenders broke last summer so I rode the bike without fenders for a while. Even though it was dry, I was amazed at how much dirt and dust got thrown up into my drive train or stuck on the bottom of my downtube.
