Even though I'm currently unemployed, I figure using the bike as part of the job search process qualifies as 'commuting'.

The LBS was kind enough to give me enough hardware to reattach my rack and secondary bottle cage. I'm just torn on how to use the rack. I have a milk crate, beverage crate, an insulated trunk bag that expands up and down w/panniers, and old Nashbar Townie baskets at my disposal.

They all have their pros and cons and they should all work with the 'storage' clipboard that I keep a couple of resumes in and my SS card and birth certificate in without them all getting ratty looking.

And note to whoever is keeping score- I really don't like how my bike handles with the rack and whatever is on there. However, it's getting too freaking hot to be wearing any of my packs. None of them were designed with airflow over the back as a priority and I can't justify the expense of getting one that does right now.

As I mentioned on other threads, I screwed a rubbermaid container on my rack, quick, cheap, easy, practical, waterproof, big surface to put reflective tape but UGLY!

Yeah, I've seen a pic of your set up, but that won't work for me- I tend to be a little flighty and like to change things up from time to time.

Just finished putting the rack back on and then installing the 4D Toplight to the rack. I would've like to use some more washers, but didn't have any handy. And though I've heard it is best to go fender->rack->frame, that just wouldn't work without some serious bending of the fender stays, which probably put even more stress on the bolts. I did take the precaution of using a nut on the non-drive side this time, since that is the one that has been giving me problems.

I know it's not very convenient, I've been thinking about that. I'm moving in 3 weeks but as soon as i'm installed in the new house I want to try to figure a way to make a ''quick release'' system (if possible) I'll let you know if I ever find a way.

There's a product that you may or may not have heard of. Because it uses zip ties as the "mounting hardware" I'd consider it semi-QR. If I had more of a city bike (like the Giant Via), I sure would be tempted to try them out. https://www.donkeyboxx.com/index.php/default/

Well, I found my trunk bag (and my helmet that was inside) and put it on the rack. Then got my clipboard... and it only fits in the main compartment, wedged in, but the bag won't close. Bummer. I guess I'll use a Townie basket now.
