Sirrrus Comp and FX 7.5, wich one has less weight
 

Hello, I am deciding between a FX 7.5 and a Sirrus Comp for commuting. I dont have access to these bikes in a local shop, I cant give them a try. Once I decide , they have to order the bike for me. They are pretty similar, so I am just thinking about the weight to make a desition. Could anyone please tell me which one is lighter?

I cant ride them or test them, they dont have them in stock in local dealers as I said, and I dont know any owner of this bikes.

Sorry man, I forgot that only one dealer in the whole country sells these bikes, so it would be impossible to travel to different shop that may stock them, so that you could try them before you buy one.

Yeah, selected a bike based on weight sounds like an excellent idea. Especially, because you're asking BF for the information resulting in your purchase.

For the record, the FX weighs 44.2 lbs and the Sirrus Comp, 9.3 lbs. I guess you get what you pay for with the Sirrus.

No idea which one is lighter, but IIRC the Sirrus is a little more aggressive/sporty, whereas the FX series is a little more relaxed/comfort oriented. Both are great bikes & I'm sure you'll be happy with either (I have an FX & Love it, but I'm sure i would be equally happy with the Sirrus), but that might sway your decision a bit more than the weight of the bikes, as I'm sure they will be pretty similar.

At least with the Sirrus, the geometries should be the same as the other Sirrus models so you should still try to ride one to check the fit (I imagine they most have at least one Sirrus model!). Not sure if the same holds true for the Treks. I couldn't find a weight for the FX 7.5 but I found a bike shop that claims the Sirrus Comp weighs 22.92 lbs (http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/prod...sirrus-comp-12) - of course I imagine that also depends on the size of the frame to a slight degree.

The bikes you mention are probably about the same or close enough that unless you are racing the bike, weight is not a significant factor. Focus on something more important, like color.

Well, they are not easy bikes to find in shops, I call a few of them, I live in Seville, south of spain, I called toplaces around and even shops in madrid, which is 535 kilometers away, but I can call more places if you want, get a car or a train, I may even take a plane and go to barcelona and see if I find the bikes, Barcelona is a very modern city and some shop could stock the bikes, its worth it to make 1000 kms, I will tell you everything about it

I dont know if is a good idea to select a bike based on weight, I have actually choose these two bikes, the 7.5 FX as I mentioned in the first post and the sirrus comp, based in other criterias like type of bikes , frame desing and components, use I will give them etc. They result to be so similar than the weight could be a good pusher to choose, but if you think I am doing something insane or stupid asking this, or you think I should travel cities all over spain in instead of asking here for anyone's experience with this bikes.......PLEASE KICK ME OUT OF THE FORUM, I will be thanking you for the rest of my like and I will never ask or buy bycicles again without your supervision

Please don't let this poor experience on the forum turn you off. On the very first thread I made on this forum, I had a number of posters heckle me for my apparent lack of bicycle knowledge. Though it was quite discouraging, I stuck around and have found this place a trove of information for 4 years now.

As far as your question, I don't know which bike is lighter. I see that the Specialized has a 10speed cassette in the rear, as opposed to the 9speed for the Trek. 10 speed cassettes give you one more gear to choose from (normally, an inbetween gear somewhere in the middle of the cassette). 9 speed cassettes are cheaper and last longer due to thicker chain widths. The Trek also comes with 24 spoke wheels in both the front and the rear. I haven't been to Seville, but I imagine some of the older roads in historic neighborhoods could quickly destroy such lightweight wheels.

Many of the posters on this thread are suggesting you ride the bikes before you purchase because many have found that to be one of the best ways to find a bike that is comfortable to ride. Not only to seemingly similar bikes between companies come with unique frame geometric configurations, some companies offer odd sized frames (51cm, 53cm, 55cm, etc) or even sized frames (52cm, 54cm, 56cm). In my opinion, these differences are worth investigating whenever possible, even if that means trying out bikes you didn't initially plan on purchasing.

I have seen a full-carbon Sirrus on the road around here if you really want a lightweight hybrid.

I <3 Seville. It actually one of my favorite places in Europe.

Which gets to my point ... why buy a Trek in Europe? This is actually a serious question because the number of dealer and options are significantly smaller. I wouldn't consider buying a Trek in Germany, Sweden or Denmark (where I've lived in Europe.) It's not that their bad bikes or anything, but the service/dealer options are much more limited.

Spain has some interesting bikes like BH and Oreba.
