So long and thanks for all the advice
I have finished my current contract, and have turned down their offers to renew. While there was a number that would have had me sign on again, it was as high as my bosses wage ;)
On Tuesday I start riding from here to Turkey, about 14,000 km, I think it will take me about 8 months. So I will leave all the daily grind to the rest of you. Take care, ride safe, and I will come back when I start commuting regularly My blog is at www.crazyguyonabike.com/azesty z |
stay safe. hit me up in Frankfurt when you head further west

I think I remember you saying in another thread that you'd head west if you decided not to continue with this job. Stay safe!

Happy Trails to YOU!
Safe rides, man! :thumb: I'm envious.

Have a great trip. Take lots of pictures.
Wow. Sounds like an amazing journey. Be safe and enjoy!

You might wanna steer clear of the Turkish/Syrian border unless things cool down by the time you're in that neck of the woods.
Holy crow. Is it possible to post pictures?
Good luck and stay safe. What route are you taking?
Thanks for all the kind replies.
I will have photos on the blog I linked to at the top. I will ride from Chengdu, north, through Songpan, and into southern Gansu. Then hope to go into Qinghai. That part will be all high altitude, over 3000 m, so it will be nice and cool, though it seems to be wet now. After that I will drop down into northern Gansu, and then into Xinjiang. Those places will be very very hot. 40 - 50 C (104 - 122F), and I have something like 2000 km of that. I need to spend a week in Urumqi to get visas for the next two countries. Then into Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and then into Turkey. This is the southernmost route that can be done from China. Myanmar is closed for border crossings, Tibet is closed, and I think it a little foolhardy to ride through Afghanistan. The road I will be taking through Tajikistan runs along a river, the other side of the river is Afghanistan.... I think I can do this. I know I can catch a plane to Turkey, that is easy. This is not. There is a reasonable chance of failure, but I will try it out anyway. z |
Wow.
Wow, I gotta check your blog for updates. Enjoy!
Be careful and have fun. Those temps sound merciless to me, but I'm a weenie.
Say hi to Ahmedinejad when you get to Iran!
Good luck with the journey. Are you riding alone or with any kind of support vehicle?
So, what will you do once in Turkey? |
Cool! Have a great time. And stay safe.
