No winter cycling for me!!!

Hi everyone, I have officially decided not to ride in the winter. I live in Winnipeg, the coldest city in Canada, on December 30 -31 we got 45 -50 CM of snow and since then it has been - 35 to -40 everyday and night. And right now it is snowing again with another 5 CM of snow expected. I think I will wait until it warms up here ( that should be about the year 2069) or maybe the NHL lockout will be over beforethe weather gets nice enough to ride. I hate winter.

Maybe you're more sane than your moniker suggests.

I live in Southern Arizona and bought a trainer so I could work out in bad weather

Personally, I enjoy riding in our cold weather. The main arteries are almost always cleared, and if pavement isn't showing on the roads it's hard packed snow which is just as good.

Also, the air is usually dry and crisp; you don't have to worry about rain and slush. I'd rather be out when the temperature is -35C than -5 when passing cars splash road grime on me. When I get home, my bike is still clean, my cheeks are rosy, and I have a smile on my face :D (And judging by the ever growing winter biking population here, I'm not the only one).

Vision, you are a lot more braver than I am. It's not the main arteries that I am woried about, sometimes I can't even see around the huge hills of snow that the tractors have left behind, all I need is to ride out too far and there would be no way I could stop in time.

You've got a point there. I work downtown so I don't have to contend with two many hills, except when I'm almost back home in suburbia. Then extreme caution is definitely called for if piled snow blocks the view of an intersection...
