Amsterdam This Weekend -- Any advice for doing a bike tour around the city?
In a city so widely associated with the bicycle, I wanted to see about get a tour by bicycle. Any thoughts, suggestions or offers for a personal tour?

I've been to Amsterdam a few times. Even on foot you'll be able to see a lot of stuff.
There are bike tour companies and also places you can rent a bike and explore on your own. I can't really recommend a particular company because the times I visited there, I had non riding relatives with me. Here's a video from my last visit to Holland, shot mostly in Den Haag - The Hague but will give you an idea of what to expect :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPHI...w&feature=plcp |
Here is a nice route, if you click on the green button on the map you can see the route details:

I'd take a bike tour with an established company. It's a great way to spend a morning or afternoon, and you'll get to see parts of the city you wouldn't otherwise see, and learn stuff you wouldn't otherwise know. I took a half-day with the "yellow bike" company- the bikes are cr*p, coaster brake cruisers, and the ride won't be physically challenging, but I was looking for history and architecture rather than exercise. If I had more time, I'd probably rent a bike and a strong lock, but transportation isn't a problem in the city center.

have you checked out couchsurfing to meet up with some locals?
i've used the service to meet people and to host people. highly recommended as it's much more personal than a booked tour. |
