2012 Commuting Results--How'd You Do?
2012 was my sixth year of bike commuting. To say it's pretty routine is an understatement.
Even so, I was pleasantly surprised by some of my numbers on the year. What changed was that I made a real commitment to use my "Long Loop" and "Hills, Parks, Cemetery, and Trails" routes more often. My direct route round-trip is about 9 miles, about 38 minutes, and about 200 feet of climbing.
Workdays: 210
Bike Commuting Days: 210
Miles: 3,547.65
Time: 226:45:50
Altitude Gain: 161,823
Miles/Day (Avg): 16.89
Time/Day (Avg): 1:05
Climb/Day (Avg): 770.59
Speed (Avg): 15.75
Speed (Max): 33.3
HR (Avg): 139
HR (Max): 171
Cadence (Avg): 86
Cadence (Max): 117
72.4% of all miles were commuting.
So, how'd you do?

Unfortunately I don't have detailed statistics concerning elevation, H/R and cadence, but after one whole year of daily commuting, I did manage to rack up 2920 Km (1815 Miles) which consist of (around) 90% of total cycling distance and have lost 22 Kg / 48 Lbs of weight along the way.
All this having saved more than €1200 ($1584 US) on gasoline and approximately €600 ($792 US) on car expenses.
Also Endomondo has some statistics as well!
Total workouts: 503
Total duration: 8d:18h:25m
Total distance: 2929.37 km
Trips around the world: 0.073
Trips to the Moon: 0.008
Average speed: 13.92 km/h
Average pace: 4m:19s
Calories burned: 162498 kcal
Burgers burned: 300
CO2 saved: 480 k
Note: average speed and pace are low because I commute in moderate to heavy traffic, especially in the morning commute to work!

However, using Google as a guide, I have a commute of 14 miles roundtrip , roughly, by the long/scenic route or 9 by the direct route. A normal week is just over 120 miles as I normally do a 30-40 mile ride Sunday mornings.
I certainly didn't bike commute every day. I lost 6 weeks due to an encounter with a vehicle in March but did most days during the winter. Luckily I have a good bus route... 'cause I don't have a car. I can't even say rain held me up much.... we had no rain for most of the last half of the year.

I don't use a computer, but was able to ride later in the year this year, and even managed to ride to work yesterday. Overall I was happy with my commuting in 2012, see more commuting in my future.

I bought my bike May 17 and used it on my commute the first time May 21st.
I have been multi-modal commuting with my bicycle and the local MTA bike/ride.
I drove my car to the office 4 times from May - today.
I don't have detailed stats but I did enter my rides into Map my Ride and accumulated 936.8 miles on the bike this year.

I do about 15,000km / year commuting and don't bother with the details. Sold my last car about 6 years ago and never used it much locally anyway. Renting a car the times I want to go skiing is cheaper than just the insurance on owning one, and I don't have to dig it out when it snows - I can actually go skiing instead!

I work a lot at home but on the days I go into the office, I only drove twice, both times because I had to bring in things that I just couldn't carry on my bike.
Total 150 commutes, 869 miles (I have a pretty short commute but with a big climb), climbed 93,600 ft for an average climb of 107 ft/mile, avg speed 10mph (fastest speed for a commute was 11.2mph), hottest commute 91 degrees, coldest 10 degrees. Put studded tires on Jan 4, took them off on March 10. Which reminds me, I need to go put on the studs today!

2012 has been 5 years of all year round bike commuting for me. I am also going into my 2nd year of living car-free. I don't know my exact mileage for last year because I stopped using bike computer. I ride to work 5 days per week 18-20 miles rountrip and I do some riding on the weekends, with occassional rest day...that means almost 365 days per year on the bike. Adds up to few thousand miles per year.

This was my first year commuting by bike to work. it was a very good year for me. I commuted as much as I could but I do not keep track of mileage or any type of statistic. i had to stop in November due to it getting dark quickly after four pm as soon as the lightness comes back after four I will be commuting by bike again.

between 3/1 and 12/28 i commuted all but 4 weekdays and every Saturday (part time job). comes out to about 60mi/wk, roughly 2400 commuting miles this year. and, OT, but probably about the same in recreational riding.
currently the shoulders and part of the lanes here are blocked by snow (not bad in town, but 1/3 of my commute is a 55mph county route). waiting for a melt so i can get back in the game.....

I did enough commuting to satisfy myself. I kept going into December, rode in the immediate aftermath of Sandy, got lights that let me ride at night, since I'm never done at 5. I bought new cold weather clothes since I never had any bike specific ones and these keep me warm. I used 4 different bikes to commute through the year, my steel Davidson road bike, my carbon Kuota roadie, my Trek 8000 and the Trek 7000 I bought to replace the 8000 when my son took it. The security guard at my office thinks I'm a bit bike crazy, but I'm not really.
My total miles for the year was just short of 3000, but far from all of that was commuting. My commute is 10 miles each way, and I put maybe 1200 miles in commuting. I'll have to count it up. The rest is more serious road riding.
I counted and I only show 38 commutes, although I would swear I did more, so 38x20 = 760 commuting miles. The rest are almost all road miles, with a small amount on the trainer, and a very rare MTB ride when I'm not riding to work.
This year I'll do more as I'll start earlier in the year, maybe even this week!

207 out of 244 for 85%. Missed three weeks in October due to a crash which resulted in a sprained AC joint. 2,788 miles commuting with 4,885 total so 57% of my miles were commuting.
