Another beautiful morning with a hot sunny afternoon forecast. We've had these for the past week now and, if you can believe 14-day long range forecasts, they are forecast to continue for the next 2 weeks (with a minor dip for one day and rain on 2).

Another cool morning here in Okeechobee, FL. 56 degrees with bright sunny skies and no real wind. Traffic seemed to be up a little bit from the norm, but no issues. I was tired when I left the house this morning after a pretty good nights sleep, but am feeling wide awake and energized after the 30 minute ride into work.

Much better today with the sun out and the floods receding. Slick mud everywhere and I almost went down a couple of times - I take it as an excuse to ride slow and enjoy the morning.

beauty morning today! The temp was 7C when I left my house but had risen to about 10C within the hour when I got to work. It was a very nice ride!

Cheers

Lovely morning here in Chicago, but man, oh man, I have gotten a lot slower in the past year or two...

dramiscram 05-08-13 07:45 AM

It can't get better than this, 15-16 celcius this morning, no wind at all, no traffic at all (8-10 cars on my 27.4 kms commute)

Steely Dan 05-08-13 08:07 AM

a perfect morning for riding here in chicago. 55 degrees, sunny blue skies, and, most importantly, NO FREAKING WIND!

it's a rare sight to see flags along the lakefront hanging dead limp.

groovestew 05-08-13 09:34 AM

A chilly morning at about 4C/39F, slight breeze, making for cold fingers by the time I got to work. Otherwise uneventful.

Like a couple other folks in the GTA / Simcoe County area, the weather has been gorgeous. 7C in the morning at around 24-ish on the ride home, bight and sunny. I'm glad I only have to climb that damn hill in the morning and not the way home.

Interesting (meaning different) ride in. I had an early morning dentist appointment and decided to ride to it. The office is the opposite direction of my commute so it added 8 miles to my normal 11 mile commute. That said, I feel great and riding my normal route an hour and a half later than usual made things look totally different.

wilfried 05-08-13 10:23 AM

Dry, remarkably. I woke up to a downpour, but by the time I left the house, the rain had stopped, and weather radar showed nothing coming for a while, so off I went. I arrived only slightly damp, but that water all came from the inside; the humidity was like riding through a sponge. Now I just gotta hope I don't get caught in a squall this evening, as I have to go about 11 miles uptown. I'll be watching weather radar like a hawk.

My b-day today. I stayed at home as late as possible so I could see the kids awake. By then I was behind schedule so I had to HAMMER to make it to work on time! Nice ride--warm, sunny, minimal wind.

HBD!! (which, according to my wife who works in a hospital lab, also means "Has Been Drinking" and that too may be appropriate)

A very comfortable mid-20s (C) with a slight overcast and 60% humidity made today's ride pleasant in every aspect except for the large population of gnats found on my commute which ended up everywhere!

Great temps this morning and afternoon.
tailwind in the afternoon was a godsend. still took +/- 4-5 minutes to make it up my mile long hill.
but i made progress on my other hill and actually cut my time by about 5 minutes. win.

Homeward commute was a tough one yesterday, I got about halfway home when a major storm blew through. I had been battling headwinds the entire time, now wind + driving rain!

Much nicer inbound commute, but still very wet here in DC. 60F/16C

I am now officially a wimp.

Was all ready to ride today, when the heavens opened. I could barely see across the street.

So I changed into street clothes and dripped my way to the streetcar.

Of course by the time I got to work, the rain had stopped and it was quite pleasant, but it was too late.

I feel cheated. My policy is to ride home in the rain, but not to ride in, because it's too much hassle to be dripping wet in the office.

wphamilton 05-09-13 07:09 AM

I stopped twice this morning to adjust some noise out of my drive-train and knock mud off my brakes. It must have worked because a few minutes later I surprised two coyotes who were messing around on the path. It surprised them more than me because they both froze for an instant and juked back and forth before skedaddling. They weren't rabid, maybe their den got washed out earlier. I've only seen one other in that area about three years ago, and that one crashing away in the forest.

hyhuu 05-09-13 07:22 AM

It sucked. I got 2 flats on a otherwise a pleasant morning.

dramiscram 05-09-13 07:43 AM

Nice ride, no wind at all, It was supposed to rain but the sun came out once or twice, no rain at all.

ChrisM2097 05-09-13 08:04 AM

53º. No rain. No wind. 32 traffic lights...30 of them were green. Only stopped twice (less than 20 seconds each time) on my 10.4 mile commute into downtown San Jose. Can't beat that.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in the South SF Bay Area, it's Bike-To-Work day today. I spotted probably around 20 or so other people riding. Normally its only around 5-7 or so people.

Supposedly, there are lots of "Energizer Stations" positioned around the county today for the event. Unfortunately none of them are on my commute route.

fatguy_ona_bike 05-09-13 08:56 AM

A good day today. A little wet and my first non-fair weather ride in. Last commute I bent my rear wheel on a pot hole, but I successfully missed it this time :D

the sci guy 05-09-13 10:49 AM

go my first honk today. and we have a one-lane underpass that cars take turns going through from each side - it goes like clockwork 24/7 because people are so used to it (its actually higly trafficked). but this morning, after i waited for the car on the other side to come through, i went, and then some idiot in a truck pulls up on the other side, and just starts to come in while i'm still in the tunnel. I put my hand up at him in the "stop" motion, and said YOU NEED TO STOP. he gave me a funny look as i passed him.
yes i was clearly visible.
let's see what the ride home entails...

Telly 05-09-13 10:53 AM

A belated Happy Birthday @timvan_78!

Have you ever felt that the rain cloud was following you? Well that's exactly what was happening to me today. Left work and the minute I stepped outside huge drops started to fall from the sky, and they followed me all the way home; thankfully on dry pavement. Upon entering my apartment building... the sun comes out!

It's just one of those days! :p

I rode my motorcycle today, but I sure had a nice ride yesterday. The morning 9 miles at 45 degrees was normal, though it's nice now that I don't need the Blackburn Flea light on a helmet when I leave the house. But after work, rather than ride downtown and hope for an empty slot on my bus' bike rack, I just rode all the way home from Salem. It's 32 miles the way I went. I had planned on a slightly shorter route, but when I got off the bridge at Independence, I couldn't make myself ride through the towns of Independence and Monmouth before heading back out into the country, so I turned left and took the empty, beautiful back roads that I take on my motorcycle.

It took me a bit over 2 1/2 hours. I'm not very fast. I may do it again next week.
