Was off the road a few days because of the temp, but I've made some upgrades. Got me a set of lobster gloves and a balaclava. -15C on Friday and they worked like a champ.

Today, only -3C but 2-3 cm of snow+rain made things pretty soupy. Don't think I'll be doing doings those conditions much more; too slippery and treacherous.

Missed 3 days of riding due to weather (ice storm) and out-of-town travel, so I was itching to ride this morning. Then a stupid cold front rolled through our area early in this morning with temperatures hovering around freezing. The local forecasters were calling for icy roads, so I ended up driving. Hopefully I can make up some mileage later this week.

Wonderfully crisp 40 degree ride in this morning! I need to go look in the Bible and see if God has identified 40 degrees as the perfect cycling temperature - If not, I'm writing it in next time I go to Mass. The ride home (which will take place in about 3 hours) will be assisted by a 17mph tailwind. Is life good, or what??!? Ride Free!!

ice storm, sleet. Studded tires where important today. Of course I didn't have them on but dealt w/ it. They are on now. Of course the ice has melted.

I came down to get my bike for the ride home - flat tire.
I hate flat tires and I have far more than my fair share of them.
Once again, it's a rear tire. Never the front, always the rear. I just walked to the bus station, I'll deal with it tomorrow.

I'm so used to having the Flat Fairy visit in the night that it only delays me by about 15 minutes now.

I've had a couple of front flats lately. Don't worry, they will come. :-)

Today was very nice - the rain came between commutes and I stayed warm and dry.

Have to agree about 40 degrees. All week it should be 40-something here, high 30s at night. Love it, even when it is raining. My commute was lovely today and I am really enjoying my new bike (the start of our 3rd week together).

Second day that I'm stuck at home with high fever and feeling like I got hit by a truck. Hope to be up and about tomorrow and in good enough shape to commute to work by bike.

No commute today, we had 2-3 cm of snow last night and we'll have freezing rain today. A 27.2 kms ride with a strong headwind on that?!? No way! Tonight we should have a high of 8 celcius and rain so I should be good tomorow.
Have a nice ride everyone.

Finally back on the saddle after 4 days of travel and weather difficulties. Very warm this morning for this time of year with temps in the upper 40s, and the high is supposed to reach about 70 this afternoon. The roads were "sweating" this morning, I guess from it warming up so much after an extended cold spell, so it was nice having fenders even with clear skies. I'll need to wash my bike well this weekend due to all of the salt on the roads from last Friday's ice storm here.

Came close-ish to getting t-boned this morning, but since the driver was crossing the arterial I was riding down via side streets I just braked hard and turned onto the same street she was pulling onto. At that point I was a little ahead of her on the side street and it was very obvious she screwed up, but she refused to even make eye contact. Oh well. I barely get worked up about this stuff anymore.

Calm and pleasant. Saw many, many birds on the first, more rural portion: egrets, herons, hawks, robins. Then passed a long line of backed up cars as I got into civilization. I tried to not be smug.

The ride to work was 38 degrees into a 15mph headwind. It was pretty easy though I just caught a lower gear and spun easily and enjoyed it. It is snowing here today, but I expect my ride home will be on dry streets - just cuz that's the way El Paso is - and they are predicting a west wind (tailwind for me) of 25mph sustained. That's hardly even exercise lol

Easily the most difficult commute I've ever been on - I had to ride directly into a 30mph headwind gusting to 45 on my wife's single speed. I felt like I was riding one of those tiny clown bikes up the Himalayas. Can't wait for my new bike to get here; it may be a single speed but at least I won't look like I stole it from a 12 year old girl.

The low-energy problem that had been bothering me for the last few days seems to have gone away. I celebrated my 38th birthday today with a couple of very satisfying commutes.

I've noticed a lot more bird songs in the mornings this week. Spring is soooo close....

I'd like to personally thank the Clive, IA snow plow operators. Their careful efforts ensure that the entirety of the snow from the intersection is deposited squarely on the bike path/sidewalk intersection ensuring that I get extra practice to improve my cyclocross mounting/dismounting at EVERY intersection. Aside from their help, the ride was uneventful and nice, with about a 4-5" blanket of snow and temps in the low 20's. This afternoon will be colder and the wind will be in my face, but I'm still looking forward to the trip.
