2013!! How Was your Commute Today?

Vacationing in san Francisco. Great bike lanes and I don't envy having to ride these hills, but had to chuckle this morning seeing commuters clad in cold weather gear when temps were in the 50's. Some had more stuff on then we're wearing in the Midwest

Taking advantage of President's Day to get stuff done here in the office without calls, emails, meetings, meetings, and more meetings.
Cold! -4C/25F when I rolled in around 06:35 but clear dry and mostly empty streets.

Second-coldest commute of this winter with temps about 20 F. My water bottle was starting to freeze at the 4-mile point and was undrinkable by the time I got closer to work. Dressed in some of my warmest gear but didn't have a drop of sweat on me when I got to work. Rode very cautiously due to occasional patches of black ice. It snowed much of Saturday here, and although it was too warm at the time to accumulate much, we had a lot of moisture on the roads that froze overnight and roads were very icy on Sunday morning. Most of the ice melted/evaporated on Sunday afternoon, but a few icy patches lingered in shady spots. Didn't ride my bike all weekend due to the weather, so it was nice riding to work this morning despite the cold.

Yeah, I wimped out. Was 40 degrees and windy in Okeechobee this morning, and I am just NOT EQUIPPED to ride in the cold like that. So I got in my little S10 pickup and drove to work. Have a doctors appointment tomorrow afternoon, so I'll drive again tomorrow too. Then it's warmer weather and me on the bike the rest of the week.

After a sketchy commute schedule for the past couple of weeks, today's commute was exhilarating with overcast weather and the temp being in the mid to low teens (Celsius), and thankfully little to no wind. It's been a while since I reached the office feeling so awake.
Unfortunately tomorrow's weather forecast is definitely not cycle friendly with thunderstorms throughout the day and heavy rains forecast-ed, so Klaus (my bike) is spending the day indoors!

25-34F, 20+ mph winds the whole day, suckfest.
took a ride into the city to look at jackets, and i think im sold on the showers pass elite
getting there however, what an adventure.
In the 16 miles from my house to the ferry, i had my '87 original tire finally blow out on me and had the treads seperate, and blew out my tire
i patched the tube and booted the hole with a dollar bill hoping that the nearby lbs would have a tire
a block from the shop it blows out again in a different spot, so i just rode it flatted down the block
arrived at the first shop, (the one who suggested bashing off my crownrace with a flathead screwdriver and hammer previously) and they didnt even know what a 27" tire was, he thought a 700x28 was gonna fit.
I said ok let me go to the atm, and left and went down the block to what i assumed was a worse shop, but they actually had tools and were building wheels in the back
had a tire and tube, mounted them ****s up and proceeded on my day
Realized that rei is an unorganized mess and that noone sells underarmour outside of dicks
now my beater bike costs me aproximately $35

The ride in this morning was nice; just a little cool, sunny, little wind...the ride home, on the other hand, was a different story. I despise headwinds and crosswinds, and the ride home was into a 15-20mph crosswind (gusting to 25-30mph). I was really happy I only had to go 5 miles, as that was testing my nerves a little bit (I guess I should HTFU, eh?). Still pretty fun, though!
Still was better than Saturday evening's commute, when I had a driver in a large SUV run me off a road, and (from her car) several things, including but not limited to (and with more 'colorful' language) "Get off the road! I'll run you over if I see you on here again!"...then tried to cut me off at an intersection (she pulled over to the edge of the road to accomplish this). So, I got off the bike and stood there until she drove off. That was unnerving...I wasn't doing anything wrong. The road had 2 lanes in each direction, I was in the right part of the right hand lane, not hogging the road or anything. Oh well. Gotta love Alabama!

Heavy wet snow with a bit of a headwind this morning made for a slow go. Also got somewhat wet, as my water resistant clothes couldn't quite cope with the wetness. Still, they were mostly dry by the time I went home, and the snow was gone by this afternoon, leaving dry roads. Not a bad day all around.

Gray morning, lots of headwind/sidewind. -8 celcius without the windchill factor.
Quiet ride but a bit more traffic than usual.

Half and Half dry pavement, snow and ice. Temp was 21degF and calm winds finally made for a pleasant commute today. More wet snow coming tonight so tomorrows commute is still to be determined.

Cold rain the whole way in so I attached my flexible rain top - looks jury-rigged but it kept me dry. It was good to get out after the long weekend of being lazy.
I've started building a new fiberglass front end on my fairing because I don't like the transition to the side (a sharp angle covered with vinyl tape) which causes drag, and I'm tired of it looking "home-made".

Not too bad. It was 37 degrees, dark, and rain mixed with snow on the higher parts of my ride. One car passed me in 9 miles.

Popped my commuting cherry today. It was a little too warm and I can't believe how much I sweated. One thing I learned.. Tampa sucks for commuting.

40s-50s on the riverbanks. The sun feels amazing! And I swear, its feels more like spring than winter.. By far, the best day on a bike since moving here. Probably put in 40 or so miles just putt'n around and enjoying the rays.

A beautiful day today. This was the view from my head tube @6pm... still daylight!
Also, if you happen to be this guy... what kind of bike is that?

Tonight was the most grueling commute I have done yet. The wind was supposed to calm down over the course of the afternoon, but it didn't. So I toughed it out all the way home on studded winter tires, straight into a 24 mph headwind. I have never used granny gear for so much mileage on one ride before. I was careful to not fight it every inch of the way and risk an injury, and I did a lot of walking and stretching when I got home.
It was still better than driving, but not by much. Better days are surely ahead.

Last night I went through this muddy patch walking my bike...this morning I see my muddy footprontys all the way down the hall of my building. Sorry neighbors!
This morning was a windy but not very cold ride in...I had a short delay to allow some construction workers to load up a truck outside of one of the national museums ion the Mall in DC...they were curious anout my daily commute and gear.

I was surprised and impressed to see a blue Trek already at the rack when I rolled up today. It is the first bicycle I've seen parked there this year - impressed because at -1°C it was also the coldest morning so far, and as you all know we don't deal with that well down here. With my setup I'm loving it though, a beautiful ride in.

Cautious commute this morning with roads still wet from yesterday's rain and temperatures in low 30s. I took it easy due to potential black ice, but fortunately didn't hit any although I saw many puddles that were starting to ice over.
Saw another bike commuter on my route, which is extremely rare, but he apparently has some stuff to learn. He was riding with no lights at 6:30 am and very low visibility, although I do give him credit for wearing a fluorescent yellow jacket with reflective stripes. The problem with reflective gear, however, is that it only works if headlights are shining on it -- and a lot of bozos drive around with no headlights early in the morning.

Chilly (31/-1) but sunny blue skies. Rode the road bike and was well pleased with myself for truing my wheels over the weekend. No pulsing when braking anymore.
