Cool but not cold this morning (61 Deg.F), lots of big trucks on the road but they gave me room so no worries. Overall a fun commute great to be out on the bike!

Summer has finally arrived in Northern Illinois! Warm and dry, a great day. And a tail wind no less! Just turning 1000 miles for the year.

wooo I can finally contribute to this thread! Made my first bike commute yesterday going home, a long and hilly 14.8 miles home with 625 feet of climbing, warm, with wind blowing lots of crap in my eyes even with sunglasses on. Kept having to stop and try to wipe stuff out of my eyes. Left work about 4:10 yesterday and got home about 5:25.

This morning it was nice and cool, left the house at 6:30 on the dot. Took a different route which was about 15.3 miles but less climbing, and less traffic. However I still ended up with a slower average speed. Also took one wrong turn which added another 0.7 miles and a few extra minutes. Got to work at 7:55, showered and was ready to go.

Work was having a free health screening today, so I decided to bike in (9 miles) even though I was fasting. Ugh! My stomach finally stopped major complaining after about mile 4, but I felt so weak the whole way in - especially on the hills. I ended up making decent time though...

It was a beautiful morning - thunderstorms were in the area last night, so it left a very pretty orange sunrise and warm weather. It did start drizzling around mile 6 though. That was the first time I've ridden in inclement weather (other than 30+ mph winds) so far. It was very nice.

Unfortunately when I got to work and waited half an hour at the "Walk-In Health Screening" it turned out that if you didn't have an appointment, you may as well not even try. Argh! So much for "Walk-in". Oh well, I pedaled over to Subway and got a breakfast sandwich. I'd still call it a good commute though...

Congrats (and you know I had to convert that into miles!!). 67F this morning but very stiff headwind. Predictions are the winds could gust to 30mph this afternoon, and of course it will shift directions so I have a headwind home!

A commuting buddy caught up with me on his new Woodford. Beautiful bike and I killed myself trying to keep up with him - helped he didn't have any commuting gear on it

What's a Woodford? I looked it up but only found motorcycles (although that does explain why you had to kill yourself to keep up with him).

8C/46F and a light tailwind. Took a slightly longer route this morning so that I could chase down a couple other commuters, but I caught up easily and no-one seemed to be in a competitive mood.

Met my buddy at 6:45. We have the same coach and he's been good enough to synch up our training schedules so we can ride together a couple of days a week before work while still keeping our respective programs. Walked in to the building at 8:05, shower, grab some coffee, and at my desk at 8:30.

Life is good.

There was a very light, refreshing rain for about the first half of my 7.5mi commute. The second half was simply pleasantly overcast.

An abnormal May morning for New Mexico, that's for sure. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Normally I don't comment here about my commute home but today's wind was horrible and seemed to arrange itself to be a headwind no matter what direction I was going. Headwinds are hills dipped in evil!

Taking a slightly different route in tomorrow. I've been missing a great photographic opportunity these past couple of mornings so I'll try to catch it tomorrow on the way in. Maybe I'll take a few photos on the way.

I had a moderate head wind on the short 5 miles in to work and a nice relaxing ride back in the dark with very few traffic.

Another nice morning with sun and no significant breeze, 8C (46F). Forecast only to reach 13C (55F) though but at least it will be mostly sunny all day. I have some photos from today's ride in to post in a little while.

Nice to be back to my regular commute after working out of the office for a month on a couple projects. What a difference a month makes, leaves are out, grass is green, it feels like summer. Felt strong this morning, it took me 55 mins vs the regular 60 mins. No wind, cloudy and cool. Arrived at the office feeling invigorated, grabbed a coffee and at my desk.

Light rain the whole way in, temp in the low 60s. I didn't get too wet, although my shoes do need to dry out a bit. It's supposed to clear up and get in the 80s this afternoon.

I'm starting to think my seat is a bit too low. My knees are a bit achy.

Some photos taken along the route today.

Even at 6:10am, the sun was up high enough that it ruined the photo I really wanted to take, I'll try again tomorrow at an earlier time, this location is only 2 minutes drive from my house. The structure to the right of the sun is Science North on Ramsey Lake (you can see a bit of the lake). To the right of the photo is Laurentian Hospital and to the right of the bushy tree, in the distance, is my office building.

At about km 13 of the 16km ride, I enter Laurentian University property via the back road. It is about 1km long, mostly a gradual incline, compacted dirt and normally, I couldn't take this photo without some joggers, dog walkers and other cyclists on the path. In fact, I didn't meet another person (2 actually) until close to the end, at this point, I am about 1/3 along the route.

At the crest of this dirt road, before a bit of a dip, I can look left over Lake Nepahwin (the 4th lake on my route that I pass, one of 130 within the city limits) to the Idylwyld Golf Course.

As I cross from the east to the west side of the university property, I pass a bay of Ramsey Lake. My building is the 8-storey building to the left. In the distance, you can see the INCO stack which is 6.7km (4mi) away.

such a crazy swing in temperatures this week. TUESDAY 42 and i wore bib tights, jacket, wool jersey and was comfortable. THURSDAY 62 wore knee warmers and arm warmers. I ended up taking off arm warmers. Thanks to the humidity. It was a good ride though.
