2013!! How Was your Commute Today?

this morning's commute was fantastic, not only was the weather simply brilliant (55 degrees, sunny blue skies, calm winds), it was also the first time i got to commute on my road bike in a couple weeks because it's been so damn rainy here. after a couple weeks riding my foul-weather hybrid beast, my road bike felt like a rocket underneath me. it's just such a joy to ride such a fast, responsive, light-weight little pony!

new commute route to summer school was awesome today. in the morning it was a nice low 60s, and even though it got into the mid 80s by the time I was coming home around 12:45, it wasn't too bad.
the route itself is so much better than my regular commute to school. less hills (except for 3 really steep short climbs), less road, more greenway! it's a little longer as well so more workout, too.
very happy.

The temp was a little cooler today than yesterday at 45f though still blue skies and today the winds were a little calmer. A very nice ride to work today.

Awesomeness all around here! I couldn't have asked for a nicer commute than today. Perfect weather with temps in the low 60s, moderate humidity and a light tailwind. Rode my touring bike and kept a fast pace, which is atypical for that bike with its heavier weight and fatter tires.

very nice this morning! Cool enough for a jacket but dry & low wind. Traffic was all pretty friendly as usual around here.
Today was my first ride since falling on my knee last week and it's been a little twingey but was great on the ride!
Cheers!

simply wonderful (that's more awesomeness, though I hate to use that word) - 58F, no wind, clear skies

A very nice morning in NE Illinois also. And no school traffic!

I am bummed I started to ride yesterday and it started to rain on me so I turned around and drove in. It turned out to be a decent day and I should have ridden.
I rode today legs were good and felt more rested. I rode my fastest time EVER. Sprinkled a little as i got closer to work but I got to work right before the sky fell and it really rained. It is not supposed to be raining today! 20% chance ha!
I locked bike inside and security said I could not park it there it was a fire hazard. (crazy top floor onto a parking garage. If the building is on fire I really doubt people will go pass the door to the parking lot to trip over my bike)
So I changed and came back to move it after changing especially after a friend said he heard them talking about cutting it loose. I went and asked someone if he had a place for me to park my bike and he said sure put it in here.
So now it is in a locked virtual computer lab!how does that work for you Security dude!

More great riding today with cooler drier temps in the morning. Rode first to great school campus to drop something off, which added a couple extra miles to the commute, which was welcome this morning. The new ride, a 1995 Trek 850 Mountain Track built up from the frame is serving me well for its second week now. (It replaces my old Surly LHT which was stolen a few months ago.)

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Our river valley park system is the largest in North America and is criss crossed with paved trails, gravel and hardpack, and singletrack... it is really beautiful and you can ride for hours and hours.
The bike is a '73 Garlatti road bike rocking some 630:35 tyres (and has a bunch of other upgrades)... it is really stable on that mix of gravel and hard pack and simply flies on the road.

Mixed modal commute today. I have to pick up the kids from martial arts after work and still wanted to get in a ride at lunch. Put the bike on the rack, drove and parked the car up the street from the studio, and rode to the office. Reverse course this afternoon, but with two passengers.

Yesterday I went 17 miles instead of 14.5 because I had to make a detour to vote in a general election *crooked mayor of 16 years is finally gone!* This morning the usual 14.5 miles. I'm totally NOT a morning person, so when I hit the big hills I like to just put it in the smallest gear and say "take it easy" to myself. Of course then I always start hearing Jackson Browne "Take it easssssy, take it easssssy, don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you craaaaazy"
Which is ironic because my front wheel is making some weird noise that is driving me nuts lol

That's the Eagles with "take it easy"! Jackson Browne sang "running on empty".... both very motivational commuting songs IMO!

^ i often get "ride like the wind" by cristopher cross for tail winds and "against the wind" by bob seger for head winds, running through my mind.

boned by the weather forecast!
when i checked this morning there was a 0% chance of rain for this afternoon, so i hopped on my fair weather road bike.
it's now 10 to 5:00 pm and it's definitely raining outside. the fair weather road bike was the wrong choice.
it's time to decide: deal with my road bike (no fenders) in the rain or take it home on the train? hmmmm..........

Commuted through SF downtown on my track bike brakeless for the first time. Surprisingly not as bad as all the pro brake people make it seem. Braking is almost as good as my road bike, but I guess it depends on how fit your legs are.

Rode home at midnight yesterday. Made good time to break my all time record for two-way average Getting up a mere 5 hours later to get back on the bike to work was less fun. Still, nice weather, took a cruising pace this morning.
