The ride in this morning was quick and the temp was 60f a very nice ride. I found a cellphone on my ride home last night. I contacted someone that was in the contacts list. The phone belongs to his father in a nursing home. I have no idea how it ended up along the main road. Anyway, on my way home this evening I am going to stop in the nursing home and return it to him.

There's road construction on the other side of the Yamaska river so all the traffic is coming on MY side, a lot more traffic then usual but still nothing compare to big cities.
Nice commute again this morning.

20°C and wet again - I don't even think about the Greenway since parts are covered by over four feet of water now. It hasn't been raining that hard, but it's inexorable and never seems to end.

The days are getting noticably shorter here in the north. Nice commute in this morning. The sun was just up and behind clouds so it made a nice cool ride. Still getting accustomed to my new route and the additional 8 miles daily. Have not been able to go every day due to job requirements needing the car.

After two consecutive days with flat tires, I rode the short route utilizing local transit.
I still got in over 25 miles yesterday - with the tire repair in the latter quarter.
I want to ride a few short miles before getting off a beaten path in the dark again.

I'm beginning to think I'm cursed.

Today was my third day commuting on my new-to-me '93 Raleigh MT-400 from craigslist.

About halfway into my 5-mile ride, I noticed one of the pedals felt "bent" - it wasn't rotating level. I looked down and saw it had backed itself out of the threads in the crank by about 1/8". Afraid of losing the pedal altogether and not having an adjustable wrench (lesson learned), I was lucky to come upon a tradesman getting out of his work van on a quiet neighborhood street and he was nice enough to loan me a wrench.

I couldn't loosen or tighten the pedal with reasonable force, but that convinced me the pedal wasn't about to spin off, either. I thanked the man and continued to work. Fortunately, there's a Performance Bike shop practically accross the street from my office and I plan to head over there at 10:00 this morning when they open and hope they can fix it without charging me more than I paid for the bike.

Back in the saddle today after driving yesterday due to heavy rain. Our weather forecast calls for rain every day this week, like the entire month of August (and June and July) so far. It doesn't actually rain every day, and doesn't rain all day when it does, but it has been very frustrating for bike commuting because the threat is always there. I have been caught riding in the rain more times this summer than ever before. I am also getting bored with riding my rain bike. It is a very nice bike (Gunnar Sport), but I like to mix it up and ride different bikes, and none of my other rides currently have fenders. I picked the wrong summer to remove the fenders from my Waterford, which was my other main commuter.

No commute for me today. On the ride home yesterday a runner decided she wanted to go the other direction on the mup just as I was coming up on her left. I had nowhere to go except down. Luckily she was fine - I on the other hand have a nice array of road rash, broken finger, and a concussion. Most importantly my bike is fine.

Clueless joggers are truly the bane of the MUP cyclist. The other day, I rang my bell well behind a jogger couple who were slowing down. The fellow moved off the path, looked straight at me, then walked directly in front of me. Idiot. Not enough oxygen in his brain, I guess. Luckily, I had enough time to grab a brake, and we avoided a collision and I stayed upright, so I fared okay.

Decent ride in today. Discovered that I had accidentally taken my work pants home with me yesterday. AWESOME!

Ride in the morning in the upper 60s....ride home should be mid 80s. My commute home last night from work took a detour to Wrigley Field to catch a game. The ball park has a free bike valet which was super convenient...and was quick to retrieve my bike.

Todays Commute was SWEET! First day of school is tomorrow and I was able to ride into work with only minimal stuff (just a change of cloths) to get my classroom ready. Tomorrow I will need to drive since first days are notoriously unpredictable, but Thursday I should be back on the bike. My commute is about 15 miles each way and my fellow teachers think I am nuts... then again, most of them get their exercise walking to the drink machine... I commuted maybe 20 times last year, this year I hope to do it at least 90 of the 180 school days....



Weather: Mid 60s in the morning, lower 80s on the way home. Lite winds, ton of deer out this morning.

Today's commute started just great. But a snake decided to die, I guess it was dead, in my path, and I ran over and tore a spoke out and warped my rear wheel. I had to be rescued. One good thing is my LBS and they are just too good. They trued my wheel and replaced the spoke for really cheap.

I saw a woman riding a large wheel (i'm going to guess 36" or bigger) UNICYLE with Dayglo-Green rims! Talk about your fixed gear commuter - Wow!

I go from Lancaster City to Brickerville, usually pass airport around 7:20AM and 5:30PM.

Today was really no different than any other day, but on my way in I just thought about how awesome and how fun bike commuting is. I can tell the folks who wait at the bus stops each day recognize me now and a couple of them wave to me every morning.

Yesterday I promised to get home at 10pm, meaning I would have to take a train at 6pm and bike for 75 kms. Yet I missed that train, had to take one an hour later. Tried my best and got home at 10.30pm. 28kmh average speed, riding solo, slight headwind, after a 10hrs working day, carrying extra stuff with me (laptop, clothes), half the time biking in the dark. And I am a kind of an overweight clyde, 2m/117kg.

I feel good.

Today I decided to embrace the warmth and humidity. I wore my lightest jersey and rode fast, even though my legs were tired and I had a headwind. Made good time was completely drenched when I got to work, but in this kind of humidity you will get sweaty no matter how easy you ride. We are finally supposed to get a break from the heat and humidity this weekend, but I will believe when I see it.

Thanks! No commute today - doc said stay off the bike for a few days and for once I listened. Typing with broken finger sucks!

I'm starting to find more and more commuters along my route. I haven't quite figured out why I haven't run into them before. I'm always within 1-3 minutes each day. So...either they are starting out earlier, or just starting to commute. Look pretty geared though....

Not sure what happened, better fitness, a combination of hitting the lights just right or what, but I knocked nearly 3 minutes off my fastest commute "in" time this morning.

Raining again, but I was keen for the ride to see if it felt different after swapping my stem out last night. I've had a 120mm stem because I figured the frame was slightly small, but it feels a little stretched out so I ordered a 100mm. One like this because I thought it would be funny to pretend I'm a weight weenie, but it's not really carbon fiber. Just aluminum wrapped in in CF Anyway it felt better immediately but over the course of the entire commute I can't really tell a difference. Time will tell I suppose.
