Looking for the absolute raciest bike with disc brakes and can hold fenders AND rack
I have a Surly Disc Trucker, and I absolutely love it. Its fun, comfortable, and reliable as all hell (I went 1200 miles last summer on mine and didn't even get so much as a single flat).
However, Its rather slow and heavy and the geometry is much more so for riding 80 miles day after day.
I'm looking for something I can use for a ~5 mile commute back and forth every day, but also something I can take out and go *fast* on. Something light and nimble.
I have a Bianchi Volpe now, and I'm generally happy with it, but would like something even a little bit quicker and lighter than it, while also having disc brakes.
My plan is going to probably be to throw a pair of slicks onto a cyclocross bike, but I'm having trouble picking one out.
I've been looking at the Trek CrossRip, Raleigh RX 2.0 and Roper, Specialized Tricross, and some others. I'm open to all options, though. I imagine most bikes with brazeons for fenders AND and a rack AND can have disc brakes withh definitely lean much more towards the hybrid side, but I'm still looking for something super quick. I've already got the Disc Trucker, so I'm all set for long rides with lots of gear. I'm trying to augment that with something that isn't quite so redundant.
I'm probably never going to be taking it offroad. I live in Seattle, though, and some of the roads here are absolutely terrible and perhaps could almost be the equivilant of off-roading
Thanks!!!!

here is another frame choice (accepts fenders and rack as does the aforementioned model) that is pre-configured with dynamo and rear light. the geometry also looks slightly more aggressive.

The crossrip looks like alot of fun.
If it was my money, I'd get a titanium cross from Bikesdirect. Super light, very nice frame, and well equipped for not much more than the ones you mention. Disc ready (Less than $150 to swap to BB7), rack/fender mounts, and pretty dead sexy for the money, IMO. https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/..._pro_ti_xi.htm
Otherwise, Volagi seems to be gaining momentum in the realm of versatile, sporty bikes.

paulgix: what's your budget? The Volagi is pretty much the pimpness, but it costs. Cannondale has disc cross bikes called CAADX in both alum and carbon. If you like steel, there's Redline's Metro line. There's also a bunch of bikes on BikesDirect.com,if you know how to put one together. Had a Motobecane Ti cross upgraded to discs;was my fav bike ever until it was stolen.

Moots , Titanium, Custom, just say what you want , it's custom .. Ti Cycles in Seattle, Ditto.
Cross: race rig, Belgian based Ridley is distributed by QBP, now..
somebody sells Colnago , Sven Nys could probably win on anything he rode.
but his wins help sell the bikes.
.. You got a bike with racks why burden another one.?
I got a Bike Friday , works for me , Racks are on the fork. Disc Brakes, optional with Pocket Llama.
20" wheel nimbles up the steering ..even with a lot of stuff in my Panniers..

My commuter is a Raleigh Sojourn, I'm a clyde and so is my bike but we move at a decent clip at times. Therefore I'm not sweating the weight too much and have learned that the comfort of steel and the stopping power of disc is my preferred ride. Thus the Volagi Viaje is my N+1.
Volagi Viaje XL with 105 & BB7, $2,600; that fits your description but I don't know about your budget. I continue to dream. I did get to do a really short test ride on a Volagi Liscio and it was nice but I still prefer steel.

you can get into a Specialized Secteur with disc brakes. I love my Roubaix, although I tend to commute on my GT 29er MTB most days, just because of all of the RR crossings.

I have ridden a few Crossrips and don't consider them to be "racy" at all. They feel pretty slow and heavy, more of a first cross bike/commuter. If you're patient, 2014 and especially 2015 will see an explosion of awesome disc brake road bikes.

You realize he's in the US,and those bikes are available in Germany? Plus,I'm not liking the way they put those hydros on. The cable pulls are going to mostly negate the improved feel that hydros have over mechs, and you still have to make adjustments for cable stretch.
Sorry man, for a second I thought New Hampshire was part of the US. Thanks for correcting me!

I'm *really* feeling the Cannondale CAADX Disc Ultegra. Thoughts? It seems perfect for me. Might be a *bit* pricey, but its in my budget. And I'll probably never be leaving it out of my sight, either.

Do you people in Europe always look down your nose at people and forget how to read?

buy the bike and let me know how it works out for you. and yes, we tend to "look down our nose" at Cannondale (which has no history).

and FWIW, i love great bikes that look good and are good for the commute ... and that Cannondale meets neither requirement.
if you had a "global understanding," you would appreciate what I posted at the beginning of the thread (which you can buy from a US distributor, regardless of what the clown(s) posted in their response.)

So you don't like the bike because you think it looks bad and is made by a company that's only been around 40 years, so intead you think I should go over 3000 miles out of my way to get a different bike? Why should I do that when I can go less than 3 miles away from my house to get a bike that seems to work fine?
I'd really appreciate it if you would give me advice that's actually useful. Yes, I'm new to this, but you're not really giving me any reason why I should listen to what you say.

Actually, it does have mounts for rack and fenders, and given the title of the post and the OP's intentions, I'd say it is a very good option.
