Need opinions on cheap replacement for stolen commuter

Hi all,

My Raleigh Grand Prix was recently stolen (very, very sad day), so I'm in the market for a replacement. Unfortunately, I am in grad school and have a super limited budget--I mean: SUPER limited. I've been scouring the internet and used bike shops to find a worthy replacement for my Raleigh but have lost patience and just want to get an affordable bike that I can upgrade in a few years when I've finally finished school.

I've found a bike that I believe may be worth the money just for the frame and am hoping to get your opinions:

https://www.roadbikeoutlet.com/alumin...ed-700c-9.html

I am prepared to upgrade the components over the next year (the derailleurs, saddle, shifters, and wheels)--at the moment, however, I just want a bike that will let me get back to riding to work, around campus, and downtown with my friends. I also enjoy taking 20 to 30 miles rides along a local bike path.

I would greatly appreciate your honest opinions. Thanks in advance!

You can probably get the same bike, or better, from Bikesdirect, for the same money. They sell a lot of bikes, and stand behind their products.

Agreed that you can do better than this bike at this price point. You would certainly get a lot more bike for your money if you opted for a single speed. If you need a geared bike, this is a heck of a deal if you can stretch to $400: https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...road-bikes.htm.

Are there any bike kitchens/co-ops in your area? You could prolly pick up a nice old steel road bike for cheap, ride it for a couple years, and sell it without losing much.
