Bike to Work Day: How many schwag stops are YOU gonna hit tomorrow?

Here's a Google Map showing Bike To Work Day Pit Stops all across San Diego county.

There's two right near my work just 500yd away from each other (seems silly to me!!), and I'm going to expand my normal 5.6mi commute to about 8mi to pick up a third.

How many schwag stops are YOU gonna hit tomorrow?

None. Bike to Work Day for Colorado isn't until the end of June.

Oh woops! I thought it was a nationally-organized thing; I guess it's just state-by-state? Are there even any other states than California doing it tomorrow? (Hopefully some state closer to you; otherwise it'll be quite a long ride just to pick up a freebie rear blinkie and a granola bar...)

It's Bike to Work Day for us in Iowa tomorrow, but I don't think we'll get the swag that folks in bigger communities do. (Did the Colorado chapter of LAB have a schism with the larger organization? )

It's bike to work *week* here in MA. I went to a free bike commuter breakfast yesterday, but no free stuff other than fruit and bagels. In past years, I've gotten t-shirts, reflective pant straps, a tail light, etc. This year I settled for a banana. Maybe less free stuff was distributed to the local organizers this year. I'm not really complaining, I already have everything I need for commuting....

Is here too and the epicenter is across the street from my office. I'm shooting for 10 and if I don't make the number along the way I can make it up and then cross the street and go to work. Ohhh, schwag - I thought you meant poser commuters

Pittsburgh has a number of locations this year. The closest one to me is three miles out of the way, so whether or not I pick up any swag depends on whether or not I can wake up and get out of the door on time.

Bike to Work day is tomorrow in Arkansas. No schwag stops that I'm aware of, but there will be breakfast at the end.

We have coffee stops in the morning in Manhattan, and in the evening there's an event in Brooklyn put on by Transportation Alternatives. I don't expect any schwag though.

I have my schwag from Bike to Work day in Seattle from a few years ago, I use the bell as my regular bell now.

Yes, it's been btwW here as well, but the schwag stations ("pit stops") are only for the last Day. There are supposed to be t-shirts, snacks, and maybe little gewgaws like blinkie lights, patch kits, etc.

Cmon man, cut the posers some slack, if a 59 cent tail light and a banana are enough to convince them to ride to work one day, they might discover how awesome it is and turn from the dark side!

I have to confess, my first BTWD was 5-6 years ago, way before I started really riding again. I lived 25mi from work, and I took advantage of the event to drive most of the way to work, drop off the car to get its oil changed, and rode like 1 mile to work. I've worn the shirt completely through, it has "graduated" to chain rag duty.

Just one to get my shirt. I could hit up another one along the way but I feel bad that I'm too cheap to join the area bike association that's helping to pay for this.

I was just thinking today that I wished they'd give out bells for the schwag for BTW day here in Seattle! I'm so sick of all these people that showed up on the streets in the last few weeks passing me without so much as an "on your left" or a ding. Funny, I don't recall being irked by that all winter long. I don't know if there are just so much fewer of us that it happens less often, or those of us that ride all year are more courteous, but I suspect the latter.

Last year my girlfriend and I rode in together (it was one of those rare times where our schedules briefly lined up) and we hit three stops and blew off a fourth directly on our route and skipped a 5th that was just off of it. Last year most (all?) stops had a water bottle with a handkerchief and a power bar in it. At least one had a really crappy blinky, and another sponsored by a bike shop had some sort of coupon, and REI's stop had a patch kit with levers.

Seattle's is tomorrow too, I'm planning on waking up early to hit the stop with free bagels just off my route. Again this year there are four on my route if I take Interlaken Park in, which I'll do if I'm going to hit the free bagel stop. We'll see how many I actually stop at, might have to do with whether or not I have room for any more schwag! I don't need any more water bottles, but I can always use more handkerchiefs! Full time work + school are making me more anti-social than normal, so I may not feel up to stopping and chatting with people at all. :/

I should be able to hit 5 San Diego pit stops without altering my normal commute too much. We'll see if I can handle the madness.

We'll see how many I actually stop at, might have to do with whether or not I have room for any more schwag! I don't need any more water bottles, but I can always use more handkerchiefs! Full time work + school are making me more anti-social than normal, so I may not feel up to stopping and chatting with people at all. :/
Try the bike fair/party after work. The one I was at was in Ballard, but it was a few years ago and may have changed locations. This was the first time I'd been in Seattle for 25 years, and I was amazed at how it had changed. Ballard was one of the few places where the long-timers had lived and still felt like a fishing village. It seems more like an artists commune now, at least what I saw. I just checked and the party is still in Ballard.

I've riden them unintentionally every year, I've never seen any stops set up on my route (which is odd come to think of it) I'd have to go out of my way to go find them.

In the Twin Cities it is during the week of June 9-15. I don't want to take away from anyone's efforts to get out on that day, but riding in on an early summer morning is hardly an accomplishment I feel the need to be rewarded for with a free granola bar. To me it's a joy in and of itself.

I think we should have another one on January 15th, then 'd I'd stop in for some hot chocolate or a cup of coffee and a smile!
