Weird noise from Versa VRS-8 shifter

I recently installed the Versa VRS-8 shifters on my commuter. Overall, I'm very pleased with its performance (even the long throw of the up-shift doesn't bother me), but my biggest peeve is this rattling noise that comes from the right lever/shifter while I'm riding. It sounds like a noise that results from a metal pin or something that might have a little too much play, but nothing seems out of place when I look inside (albeit, without taking them apart, which I don't want to do). Anyone have the same experience with these? Is it something that can be fixed?

I already went to one, but everyone seemed super busy (it's that time of the year when everybody and their grandpa starts riding bikes) and when I finally got to talk to a tech, he was not familiar with the Versa shifters and was wary of poking around in something that was not purchased in the shop. I don't really blame him. Alas, the downside to buying parts on the internet at bargain prices is the lack of support. I emailed the company that makes the shifters, so we'll see what they say.

The only noise from mine is it squeaks when I pull it. Sorry, no rattle, though.
