Try slamming on the brake while doing that. Make sure the brake you're hitting is the front brake.

P.S. To be clear, don't actually try that. If you lock up the front wheel without hitting the rear brakes it's possible to flip over the handlebars.

Point being you just don't have to do that with regular shifters. It's not the end of the world to have bar ends, it's like driving a car with no drivers side mirror. I can do it, it's just more annoying.

If you can swing 1900 bucks you can have the entry level Shinola built in Detroit, with the frames being built by a company ran by a fouth generation Schwinn, Richard Schwinn. The bikes are amazing,,the top of the line commuter cost 3200 bucks. Just google "shinola".
