I have not really had someone slow down and yell at me. I did have a guy yell at me to get on the sidewalk as he went by me at 40mph. Nobody has hung around to yell at me for anything....yet.

I'm sure you can visualize her boobs too, if it helps, although it would be odd.
Would help if you posted a pic

You are absolutely right, and I would love to be such a benign and eloquent ambassador for the sport, but "EAT ME *****!" just flies from my mouth. I don't know, I can't control it.

Story time.....

Last winter, the winter day I was riding and it was somewhat bad. A guy was honking at me like crazy and then pulled in front of me and turned right in front of me, missing my wheel by an inch or two. He pulled up to a restaurant and stopped. I was pissed. I rolled by him, stopped, and told him to roll down his window. He didn't give me the time of day so I started to roll on. He started honking at me again and pulled up to hit me but he missed. I circled around while he stopped and I laid my size 13 winter big @ss cleat with studs on the bottom into his door. Left a pretty mark. Then I left.

Am I proud of it.... No. Would I do it again? Perhaps. It did make me feel better. The point to the driver is not to be a d I c k.

Used to get angry... but it never resulted in anything positive... so now I do variations of smile and wave... some of you have some great responses... such as "What" or "I love you" (but then this is CA so that probably happens more than you think...) and then there is always the Jesus response... "Jesus loves you man..."

I've even tried the Vulcan salute... but that can be misinterpreted... so careful with that. The real issue is how close did they come to smearing me across the pavement, or were they just making plain stupid comments... it is usually the latter, and thus requires no more than an equally stupid/funny response.

So, what do your wife's boobs look like anyway... GRIN

Same thing happened to me this morning from a guy in a contractor pickup truck. Grabbed two screenshots from my helmet cam and sent them to the CEO of the contractor company asking him to let his drivers know it's illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk.

verbal only? nod & wave ... if they are maniacs and actually slow their vehicle they may be looking for a confrontation. personally, if someone starts a dialogue with me they'd better be prepared for me to continue it if I can. basically, once they have my attention they quickly realize their mistake and that, no they don't really want a dialogue with me. when faced with fight or flight (without being able to flee the scene, meaning forced into a confrontation) hyped up on adrenaline, caffeine and simple carbs ... I am not a friendly or calm person. it takes a lot of self control to nod and wave.

Doesn't happen a lot but I tend to ignore it.

After all, how crappy does your life have to be to make you scream abuse at a cyclist as you go past?

I just ignore any honking and screaming coming from passing automobiles. I'm out for exercise not to socialize.

I usually smile wave or ignore, but since the purchase or an Air Zound I will use it especially at those who honk - I can usually out honk them!

Unfortunately, this is probably the most common outcome to these situations; never do anything that escalates the changes of a fight unless you've got the odds stacked in your favor.

I may be able to kick one guy's ass if I'm put in a corner, but 2-3 and I know the status quo isn't in my favor.

I'd post pics, but she'd be pretty upset, I'd wager, and so would our admins (who have some respect on my part).

I enjoy laughing when a driver curses at me for slowing him down a few seconds or preventing him from passing me just to stop at the red light I was coasting towards.

This is true, but once I had a great comeback that had a similar effect (though I was in a car this time, not on a bike).

I was driving to the train station in the morning, obeying the speed limit pretty closely, and was about ten minutes early. Some guy comes racing up behind me, starts flashing his high beams (This was about 5AM) and honking. About a block before the station he zips past me on the two lane commercial street and pulls into the station parking lot. I pull in a couple of seconds later. As he gets out of the car he looks at me and mumbles a scatological reference to my intelligence. My loud and clear reply was "Hey, I'm not the genius who thought he was late for the train". Then I got my bike out of the car and had ten minutes of him shooting me confused glances.

This is my go-to. It doesn't tend to escalate things, and it keeps me from letting the altercation hang with me for the rest of the day.

I think because they're mad, they want you to know they're mad. They want to have a negative impact on your day, and when they see you smiling it just pisses them off more.
