The best response I ever read was on here many years ago:
Pretend you're winding down your window and yell something arbitrary, nonsensical or completely benign (think "I love Jesus!")... The motion of winding down the window just seems so hilarious to me, and the way people behave inside their cars just makes this great IMO.

My experience too. Women are so much cooler about most things. There would be fewer wars. If we could just get men out of the picture (except for me of course).

Women are also the opposite of yelling. They often smile and wave in a way that charges my ride.

I've had occasional honking, including a car full of teenage girls, once. Overall, though, this kind of behavior is pretty rare for me, but I also spend a lot of time on bike trails, and my street time is mostly in the downtown area, where bikes are commonplace.
I'm a fan of ignore it or smile and wave.

That said, most of the time I've got the tunes on, and I've yet to encounter a human voice loud enough to be noticed over my cranked up bluetooth.. It means I miss most of the whistles, compliments, and honks of approval and admiration, but my ego doesn't need the help.
