Unusual bikes

To each their own but I saw a very unusual contraption on my commute today and can't figure out what the owner was thinking.
It was a single-speed mountain bike with Avid BB7 disc brakes, 3x26 Kenda Flame tires, velcro toe clips, a skinny white Selle racing saddle with a huge metal basket at the front.
Anyone else have interesting bikes to report?

I saw a guy riding down the street on a fat tire bike. Not sure what kind it was but picture a Surly Pugsley. I thought it was overkill for city streets.

another strangely popular choice around here very low end full suspension mountain bikes.

I appreciate anyone that has thought through their bike and parts choice like this person you mention. I don't know exactly what he's going for with that set up for but whatever it is he seems to fully own it. That's all good in my book.

Not strange at all. People buy bikes from Walmart or Target, they see the cheap POS full suspension bikes sold there, and think "oh well full suspension has got to be better than front suspension only, or no suspension at all!"

that is so true. I had a Cannondale Super V 700 and people would comment about it being cool. Now every single kid I see riding has a full suspension mtn bike. It also weighs almost 40lbs.

I transported a kids bike for this family a couple weekends (used it as an excuse to ride some Tsali trails too) My 2010 Jamis 650b1 felt lighter than his 24" FS mtn bike.

I see more and more chopper style bikes in Sacramento. Not for commuting; I think they're more for bar hopping.
