Snail dodging

Most of my commute is on a bike path that runs between two strips of grass. On nice sunny mornings like today, there will be hundreds of naked snails migrating from one grass strip to the other over the bike path. Most are about 2 inches long. I have to really focus to ride in between them and even then I'll kill maybe half a dozen a day. If I just ride without looking, I wouldn't be surprised if the slime of 50 snails was on my tires... Anyone else have a snail problem on his commute? It's a real nuisance.

I recommend salt along the edge of the path.

Not snails, but when I see caterpillars I try to determine before I get to them if they're gypsy moth caterpillars or not. That determines whether I avoid them or try to squish 'em.

My problem is frogs in the spring time, On rainy nights the they're all over the road, hundreds of them. I commute along the Yamaska river so I guess they all hatch at the same time in the river. It only last a few nights, fortunately.

I do, the snails on the roadways are very small but there are alot of them after a rain. I just keep on trucking right on thru.

Are they of the edible variety? If so, stop and gather them up. A little butter and Garlic. Escargot. Bon appétit!

Naked snails? Do you mean slugs?

I don't have that problem anywhere on my route, but I would try to avoid the ones I could. I like animals of all sorts and try not to purposefully kill any (except for those ants in my kitchen!)

Yeah, both snails and slugs. Not in the abundance you seem to have though. I swerve round them if at all possible. A few that are really in the danger zone, i'll stop and move to safer ground... But max two or three per commute. It would take me forever to get to work if I were to save them all :/

Damn, that is even worse. You can probably feel those through the bars as you go over them...

It's not that I care so much for them, there's hundreds of them anyway and the birds pick them off like candy. But in the numbers they showed up this morning, I'm going to need fenders to keep my face slime-free.

There was a poor guy I saw yesterday with a badly cracked shell... still trucking along the bike path tho'
Had no super glue with me, so I just put him in the grassy shade of a tree

Yeah around here we call 'em slugs, and they're nasty gross little buggers. I see them after a rain on my back patio and sliming around on the garbage cans and stuff ughhhh GROSS!

Believe me, the grossest thing is when they crawl into a beer can in the bushes, die from drowning or alcohol poisoning (I'm not sure which) then deconpose and rot until I empty the can at the end of the summer at the campsite where I work. The smell is, uh, not good...

Sorry guys, I've had a weird day

I was riding when I was younger in ohiopile (a campsite) and there were 1000s of long black... I want to say centipedes on the trail. They were a good 4-5 inches long and probably half an inch thick. The gross thing was, when you ran over them you could feel and hear them crunch. There were too many to avoid.

No snails but I used to encounter swarms of worms. If I had time, I'd actually stop and move them off the roadway into the nearby grass. We need those little guys. I'd use two credit cards and slide both cards under the worm so they touched beneath it and the worm couldn't wiggle away.

lol the Salmon by itself doesn't sound like too much of a problem, but how do you deal with the bears fishing by the bike path?
