I have a CrossCheck that needs paint badly. I also ride at night. I am going to paint it with Glowz paint, the rattle can stuff. Has anybody ever heard of this? I am not concerned with the finish, or even what people think. Actually, my club has a ride coming up....

Unless your route is lit by a black light that stuff's worthless for visability purposes. Remember the stupid glow in the dark toys we had as kids? They'd glow for about 15 minutes slowly fading the whole time. Well this is that stuff in paint form.

i'd stick with good ole bulbs powered by batteries or reflective tape... like the guy above, i'm skeptical about the glow stuff since it fades...

If you store your bike at a well-lit place and have a short commute home, it might work.

I looked at that stuff a few months ago but decided to stick with my lights and reflective tape.

I understand this stuff lasts longer, but I can't verify that. I have found paint that claims to last 12+ hours in a lime green, but it is $150 a quart. To be honest I like the idea of a useful paint job, as opposed to an attractive paint job.

I hate the stock color (maroon) and it is a bike that will see a lotta commuting and travel. I wouldnt do this with a very nice bike.

the problem is no matter how well it works it is not very bright. plus it will make a butt ugly bike in daylight.

Butt ugly is OK, this goes next to the homeless bikes at the grocery store, etc. I ordered pinstriping 3M tape and used it, it keeps peeling off into little flakes. I can live with bright in daylight and some glow at night.

I just dropped it off. This bike has seen rain a couple of times and I have rust in the frame. I'm having rustoleum put inside. The plan is bead blast it, paint it obnoxious/reflective/safety/orange or yellow and put the Glowz over the top. I painted my other bike w/ Krylon and I love it.

What about a glitter paint version? Reflective AND glow in the dark!

Depends how quickly it picks up light. I'm thinking of let's say you pass in front of a car's headlights. If the bright headlights actually cause it to glow visibly, even for a few seconds, that lets the driver see where you're going as you continue through the intersection.

I've seen welding helmets with glow-in-the-dark designs on 'em, weld for a second and they glow bright enough to be easily visible in daylight for a short period. Of course a welding arc is WAY brighter than car headlights...

I should mention I have a Niterider HID and the taillight, Tireflys, reflective tape on the wheels and Alertshirts. I even (no laughing) cut up a glow in the dark bumper sticker and put them on another bike. The guy thats doing it knows I like "obnoxious" and I told him have some fun. I really don't know if it will work but even if it doesnt, I'm cool with it. If it does, well, I will have the only glowing bike in the world right?

Thats a great looking commuter, I like the "Share the Road". My LBS is threatening to design a headbadge for this repainted bike. I suggested "Free Spirit" or "Roadmaster" they didnt like that.

that's krylon reflective paint. that is like the stuff they put on road beds to make the paint strips show up at night. suspended glass beads. I've been thinking about cleaning and coating my commuter with that and a layer of clear-coat plastic/acrylic to reseal the original paint.

not sure if the krylon is better but here is some spray reflective paint. not as good as the tape.

What I would like to see is automotive quality reflective paint.

Do the back of the bike up in red, and the front up in white....I dunno if they can do that though.

me too as long as it is as bright as the tape it would be very cool to have your whole bike reflective.

That 150 buck paint might be what a friend uses. I have seen it activate. Once it glows, it glows for a long time.

Here is an update:
I'm having a buddy do the work. He doesn't share my obnoxious ideas on "safety colors" so it's now rustoleum for inside the frame, white primer and basecoat.
Then this paint:

We don't know if it should be reflective over Glowz or vice versa. The solution is to do it one way on the forks and look at it. Any pro's out there?

Also as an alternative to others considering something like this... Wouldn't it be possible to wrap your whole bike with 3M reflective tape?

nope! i picked up some glow bike (or glo bike) lights off nashbar last winter and put them along the fenders of my bike. gives off a nice radio tuner blue and runs off 2 AA's. although they could have done the battery housing a better job and at least added a gasket along the housing door. if i ride in the rain with the battery pack attached i have to let it dry out for a week before it'll work again... so it doesn't work well in the wet, but it does light the bike up nicely.

to get the strips to stick better i used electrical tape in key places to hold things down a little better. seems to work out just fine as long as it's not wet.

My bike is painted: It glows an eerie light green at night for up to 8 hrs. I will have some pics and info after I build it up.

I have the frame and I charged it w/ HID lights and spectacular! Think of a chem light/glowstick in the shape of a frame!
I have a problem taking a picture, I tried a camera w/ no flash- any suggestions?

glowz over reflective.

you want the glowz to get as much light as possible, and it's a clearcoat, so the reflective shouldn't be too affected.
