Sounds like MaryMoore Park...unrealistic stop signs every 200' or so and in between those are speed bumps. Signs say no through traffic (except peds and bikes) and they even have a toll both...still traffic goes barrelling through.

I really like the BG trail, but also avoid it on week-ends, I agree it is way too crowded. I remember when I was in high school about 20 year ago, riding the trail from the U-district to Kenmore, and seeing just a couple people the whole way. I loved riding on those clear but cold days.

I also remember several years ago riding with my brother and his buddy on the Samammish trail. They were both ahead of me going under one of the overpasses, where the trail is blind. After making the blind left, we discovered a lady with her 2 kids having a picnic ON the trail. Not next to it... ON it. Blanket spread out, with a full spread across the trail. My brothers friend was leading, and took out their entire lunch. He got scraped up a bit, but luckily the little kids weren't on the trail. As we got cleaned up, the Mom yelled at us for ruining her picnic.

Glad no one was hurt.

Get ready for some great sun-set rides...with Mt. St Helen's blowing up again!

I commute on the BG/Sammamish River trail 3-4 times a week, between Bothell & Redmond. The summer does suck, too many pedestrians wandering around in the middle of the trail, kids weaving from side to side, etc. People love to complain about bikes, but those are the same people who don't abide by the codified trail ettiquite. =)

I've seen those LED signs indicating your speed in Redmond but haven't had a problem with cops. During the summer, I regretfully avoid anything east of Bothell; the poor surface, mixed with naive peds and the police state protecting fat yuppies in LFP don't do much for me.

That's not to say that the peds are always wrong. There are a lot of stupid cyclists, like groups during the summer in pacelines with aero bars flying 6" away from children.
