Did I make a good purchase?
New rims. Alex Adventurers. 700c to go on my Surly Crosscheck.
I have the hubs - Shimano Mtb. Just need to find the spokes.
$55 for the pair with shipping.
Part of my general move toward wider tires. I'm currently running 32's in fairly narrow Velocity Aerohead and Alex R450 rims. It works, but my research is leading me to believe that the narrow rims cause me to not get the full benefit of the wider tires.
Do you think I will be happy? Not to often I get to build a wheel from all new parts. That should be fun.

I think you got a good deal. People malign ALEX rims, but Ive had nothing but great results with them.
I had them on my Crosscheck, tightened the spokes after about two weeks and never touched them again.
That the roads were in Vermont, that says a lot. I had Alex on my fixie and SS bomber currently, and
same results ~ Bad roads, rims stay true.

I think you will be quite happy with your decision. The rims are great value, you just have to make sure you build the wheel well.
I did something similar I had a pair of Salsa Delgado rims built for wider tires, though I have not tried them out yet. My reason for doing this is the same as yours. Give a ride report after trying it out for a while.
