Deface my bike without my permission and you die, but decorate it according to my specs and I will pay you handsomely.

I do understand your anger towards vandalism, but professional artists will only paint property with the owner's permission. The same way a professional fighter would only fight someone in the ring, and not go around beating the snot out of random people in public.

I would like to hear you opinion of Seed Bombing, which is the planting flowers on property that is not yours by throwing a container of seeds there? Do you consider that "vandalism" or "defacing"? http://www.guerrillagardening.org/ggseedbombs.html

I'm going going to continue this in the "Foo" Forum so as to not derail this thread...

No one said anything about grafitti anywhere other than on railcars and no one mentioned bicycle theft, which is totally unrelated.
This has been a great thread, let's keep it on track and not get it banished to another forum with such inflammatory, off-topic talk.

My three bike routes. I have variations of all three, but these are pretty representative.

Enjoy!

My commute takes me along a couple of cities and some oil refineries. I'm so jealous at all those pretty rural commutes, hope one day to get such a nice commute as well. Well here are my pics:

Traffic jam, always a pleasure to see when im on my bike:

Metro2015, are those speed bumps on the bike path, in the last picture? They wouldn't work on me.

If it's any consolation, my commute is completely dark now in the morning, and it's dark by the time I get home at night. By the end of next month it will be dark both ways. It's not my favorite time of year, as I'm a scenery junky.

But you'll have daylight an hour earlier starting next week. Won't that help?

I usually leave before 6:30 and have enough light to switch my headlight to daylight flash mode by about 7 or so. Starting next week I'll have that same light at 6 AM so should be able to just use the daytime flash mode the whole way into work.

Will likely need the night flash mode before I get home in the afternoon, though.

Yes they are. Mostly intended to slow down mopeds, not so much for bicycles. Even with my velomobile i can take them at 30km/h :D

Agreed, I'd go faster to see if I can clear the gap in between...

Most everyone posting here has such beautiful scenery to commute through. I'm so tired of riding in heavy traffic through the concrete jungle with few if any bike facilities...

If it makes you feel any better, I only get the opportunity to take the nice commute two days a week. The rest of the time its traffic, "bike lanes" that are door zones or gutters, sharrows painted next to the gutter instead of in the middle of the lane, multiple 5-way stop sign intersections filled with idiots, incredibly rough and broken up roads and the view is either residential or businesses, but more likely I've got my head down looking for new potholes that have appeared literally overnight on our roads that have had their basic maintenance deferred for over 20 years. Recently, in an attempt to slow traffic and create a greenway, the intersections near my apartment have added stop signs and speed bumps to their traffic circles! O.o I still nearly got killed by someone racing down this street that is the designated bike route the other day. Of course, they didn't bother to put up any signs announcing the new stop signs, so maybe the jerk just didn't even notice it as he sped through the intersection at a speed you woudn't think possible with a traffic circle in the middle of it.

PatrickGSR94 10-31-13 06:47 AM

Stop signs at traffic circles are just dumb.

Nope. I leave the house at 5:00 and get to where I catch my bus a bit before 6:00, and it's still dark at 7:00 now. I just tell myself that at least I'm not on a treadmill.

No kidding! I'll have to see if I can frame a shot that captures not only the stop sign at the traffic circle, but the speed bump as well! The speed bumps and stop signs were just added to a BUNCH of interesections all throughout my neighborhood that already had traffic circles! O.o

stops lights at roundabouts are quite common in the UK, but the traffic density is much higher here.

caloso 10-31-13 02:51 PM

I thought the main point of traffic circles/roundabouts/rotaries is to keep traffic moving.

These aren't like the big multi-lane ones, these are supposed to be traffic calming devices and have been installed on narrow single family home streets with car parking on each side. They fill up the intersection, forcing cars to (usually) slow down somewhat to make their way around them. Of course, it is legal to go either way around them and the ones I most encounter are on a street that parallels an arterial that has several traffic lights on it, so despite being the designated bike route, there are always some cars speeding down it trying to avoid the lights and going around the circles whichever direction they please!
