National Bike Challenge
33,000+ riders have cycled 11 million miles with the goal of achieving 20 million by September 30. The National Bike Challenge is a free and fun challenge to encourage Americans to bike for health and fitness. Monthly prizes are awarded. If you register and post miles at www.nationalbikechallenge.org by midnight tomorrow 7/31, you will be eligible for the July prize drawing. Hope you can join in on the fun and help us reach 20 million miles. Anyone else here already in?

I've done 487 miles total for the challenge. I'm top 10 in nevada out of 38. Keep riding and stay safe.

Hey polishmadman. How's biking in Vegas these days, many cyclists and any bike lanes? The challenge is really big here in my city of Appleton, WI. with over 1200 riders out of 73,000 population.

The roads are getting more bike friendly, but still not quite there.I know my coworkers thought I was insane for riding when it was 115º. I don't tell them that the temps coming off the road are closer to 140º. Now, its finally cooling down a bit.
The challenge isn't anywhere that big here. We have 18 registered riders. All of them are sport or leisure. And so far the only commuters I see are the salmon rolling toward me.

I have participated in the National Bike Challenge last year and this year. Some of the cyclists there are putting in some incredible mileage. I thought that I rode a lot, but I am way down the list. I'm doing it for the potential swag, but so far I have won nothing, zilch, nada.

I'm in, have cranked out 1976 miles (3216 points) during the Challenge. Did it last year as well, had formed a team at my company -- we had 15 riders sign up last year. This year, I worked with HR to get some bike shop gift cards for our own drawings, and we're now up to 66 riders on the company team. Woo-hoo!

It originated in WI only a couple years ago with one large employer (Kimberly Clark). A lot of the cities at the top of the leaderboards are in the same general area surrounding KC. I'm guessing as this takes off, you'll see more parity.
I had never heard of this until this thread. I wish I would have begun keep track there at the beginning of the year but I still wouldn't be anywhere near the top. I have 800 miles on this year, with 70+ days with rides (mostly commuting, ~10 miles round trip).
I started keeping track of miles in Excel this year because my bike computer freaks out a couple times per year and resets and I lose track of miles.

I have 4237 points....not sure of miles. Somewhere around 2400. I've been riding a fair amount. I'm having fun with it. It helps that I changed jobs in June and now have a 21 mile round trip commute.

Geeze. My records show 3540 miles for the year, more than half of it commuting, but entering it all into that calendar would take for ever. It's not like I do the same ride every day, especially in the summer when I'm commuting back and forth from two different homes. Ugh.

No problem guys - just enter your Sept miles and go for the prizes. The Endomondo app works well if you have a smart phone or Garmin.
