Adventures with rain yesterday

Decided to bike to Costco for a bit of shopping and then drop some coffee cream off at work on the way home (25km, 15mi RT). There was a bit of rain, light shower on the way but I was prepared so no biggie. When I left Costco, the rain was coming down quite steady so off I went, soaked before I left the parking lot. I made it to work, dropped off the cream and as I was getting on the bike again, I noticed that the rain had stopped in the 15 minutes or so that I had been at work, nice! However, on the 4km ride home at about 1km from work, I heard lightning, counted out 20 seconds, CRACK, good, lightning is 5mi away. Another strike, 8count, 1.5mi away, not so good but ok. Another strike, didn't have a chance to finish "one" before thunder erupted, LOUD!. *****, that was just over my head!! And then the skies opened up and soon I was riding in 5cm deep (2in) rivers coming down the road, too wide for me to avoid. The water was being splashed from my front tire wake into my shoes faster than pedalling would pump water out.

Despite the lightning, the ride was fun, but then, the rain was warm, wouldn't want to do that in late October or early April.

Be safe out there! I'd have waited out the storm at Costco.

It happened to me once, pouring rain and lightning on both side of the road. I was freaking out but having a blast at the same time, hard to explain but it was a fun ride.

I love riding in the rain, and don't worry too much about lightning here in Michigan.

I got caught in a storm a few years ago. It was one of those afternoon pop up things that was just a blip on the radar when I left work. Kept a close eye on the trees and the thunder seemed extra loud!
