What Do You Think of My College Commuter?
I ended up selling my CAAD9 for $750 before I headed off to college; I'm planning to buy a new bike for $200, as a commuter. So far I entered road bike on the West Massachusetts Craigslist. I am in the Amherst College area:
https://westernmass.craigslist.org/se...=50&maxAsk=300
I would definitely like brifters, and I've found bikes with these at the $200 price range:
https://westernmass.craigslist.org/bik/4008420945.html
^ This is my favorite off the list. I'm 5' 8" with a 86 cm (33.85 inches) inseam.
I figure I could haggle $50 off the price and use that to stick some fenders on the bike.
What do you guys think? Any other bike catch your eye?

The Trek looks great! Make sure you get a good U-Lock and use it everytime you park it!

That Trek would be listed for $300 around here. Get it before it's gone. That size should be OK for your inseam, at least standover-wise. You might find the reach a little long given your proportions. I'm 3" taller than you but my inseam is almost 2" shorter.

Honestly? It looks alright, but I think the seller means that it's 57cm, which would be too big. 52-54cm would fit you better.
See if you can get them down to $250:

You don't know that at all. I'm 5'8" with a little shorter legs than the OP and ride 55-57cm bikes exclusively.

My CAAD9 was a 58 cm frame; my Trek 1000 a 54 cm. The former fit well (maybe 1 cm shorter would've been better), the latter was a bit too short (a few cm too small).
Perhaps 57 cm will fit perfectly, I'll go check it out. The seller agreed to $150.

Enjoy your time in the Pioneer Valley! I'm a proud Umass alum. Might want to consider a cross bike for your commuter because there are some great trails to ride around there too.
