On a roll and not in a good way

Things took a turn last Friday when we got rear-ended with the bikes on the back of the car. My Vaya is toast as is my wife's bike but insurance should cover it. So I've been riding my beater on which I mounted my salvaged Brooks saddle. Stopped off at a downtown library today and, since the bike is crap, didn't put my normal effort into locking it with two u-locks and a cable for the seat. As I should have anticipated, the seat was gone when I got back. Stupid! I'll keep an eye on Craigslist though there seem to be a lot of Brooks listings.
The experience has otherwise been interesting... I had generally been moving up in bikes since I started out with the beater about five years ago (though it seemed pretty good at the time) and hadn't really looked back. Now that I've been forced to look back I feel pretty confident in saying to anyone asking if they should invest in a quality bike that the answer is yes. It really does make a difference and I can hardly wait to get things back to normal.

I will not give you the same nerdo crap that I recieved when I referred to that which one perches upon while riding a bike as a seat.

The only question I would have is did you have a QR seatpost clamp or did it require a tool to remove???

I'm asking this specifically because I have been relying on the low odds that a thief in West Georgia might have an allen wrench, let alone a metric one.

Well, I said 'saddle' once so maybe can be forgiven!

And it was an allen key which I guess is pretty much a quick release.

My insurance company -- Cooperators -- came through and I've been able to replace everything back to what it was. My Super Orange 2012 56cm Vaya is now a Smokey Blue Robinson 2014 57cm Vaya. The only substantive change I can see is that Salsa has gone from direct (post) mount disc brakes to IS mounts, front and rear. Presumably they have their reasons. I'm happy! Here it is:

What is a IS mount? I have the orange 56cm Vaya. Just curious.

    Nice color blue.

Here is a link http://www.bikeman.com/bicycle-repai...4mm-post-mount. (his photo on the right is a bit weird)

'IS 51' is "International Standard 51 mm". IS mounts use an intermediate bracket specific to the rotor size (and maybe other factors) between the frame or fork and the caliper.

Salsa had already changed to IS mounts on the forks when they recalled certain Vaya forks earlier this year.

What I called "direct mount" seems to be properly called "post mount".

    Thanks.

That reminds me that I need to check my fork for the recall.
