First let me say I am riding on gravel on a bicycle path with trees and usually water on both sides. To get hit with a car the car would have to be dropped on me from the sky or be illegally driving on the path. I am not getting hit by cars. I don't see that many people in most spots, where there are people, I will not be listening for that mile or so.

I have been riding with a Plantronics Voyager. At speed the gravel and wind is too loud for my to hear all of this Audio book. Any recommendation for a new louder bluetooth ear bud that is louder?

I use the LVG HBS-730 for those occasions I ride with ear buds in. I keep one side in so I can hear when my wife calls (kid concerns).

I'm using what WonderMonkey says, but it's an LG (not LVG) HBS-700. I don't know if the 730 is just an updated model or if it has more features. The 700 is OK. Cons in my experience is just that the multipoint is really bad - you can connect to ONE device as a handset and ONE device as streaming audio. Better devices allow you to pair to multiple phones for either. But whatever. It does what I need it to.

I actually bought a 2nd one when I misplaced the first, and of course found the first one before the 2nd arrived. So I'll be using them for a while.

The closed bud really helps, it's the only way I ride. It allows me to hear with the volume much lower. I also ride with only the right hand bud in.

I'd look for an earbud that seals out competing noise, rather than one that's simply louder. You only get one pair of ears...

Have you considered a pair of Aftershokz Bluez? They use bone conduction, so your ears are able to still hear your surroundings for safety, et al.

Mount your phone in front of you on the handlebars and have it play loud enough to hear without ear buds. I do this when riding rural areas when it won't disturb anyone else like when I ride in town.

I use a Jabra Street 2 with an iPhone 4S. Works great. It allows you to use any headset you wish. And has a Mic for calls, as well as controls for any app that plays audio.

I like these, especially since I find ear bugs of any kind uncomfortable while wearing a helmet. As far as volume, it can get loud enough that I am reminded of my younger days at concerts.
