Looking for a commuter bike in a college town...
Hello guys, I'm living in a relatively small college town and I'm looking to buy some decent bike, willing to spend up to $200-300. Right now I'm checking the craiglists and saw this pretty Raleigh Passage 5.5 in like new condition:

I started bargaining with the seller, but he is asking for more than $300, which I feel is too much for the bike. What do you think? I'm new here, so not sure how to proceed with my purchase - want to get something with which to be happy years for years to come, but unfortunately can't afford to spend a fortune.
Any opinions are welcome!

I'd say if you can get it down to 250 you're good...bring someone who knows a lot about bikes/mechanical things if you don't. I've heard nothing but good things about disc brakes. Oh and make sure it fits.

Thanks for the reply. The guy insists for $325 at least, saying that a bike like this costs around $700 new now, but apparently it's too much.

Here's more on that bike.
Looks like a great commuter. Rigid frame, good gearing, 35mm tires, adjustable stem (for newbie!!) and on and on. Fenders, lights and maybe a rack and you're good to go----a long ways for a long time. The only thing I might change right off is the saddle and seatpost, I'd go with a "road" saddle and rigid post.
The list price is there at $495 (2007).
I bought a Trek 7200 that had been ridden three or four times for $200 off CL. Same style of bike but with rim brakes. But, I did sell it for $265.

What is the bike rack full of already ? might be good to blend in and not have the best bike in the rack.
