Showers Pass users - fit question

I'm considering buying a Showers Pass Elite jacket, but I'm not sure what size to order. I have heard that their jackets tend to run large. I don't like skin-tight cycling clothes, but don't want a jacket that will be flapping in the wind either. According to their size chart, it looks like a Medium or Large might fit me. I generally wear size Large, but it looks like a Medium might fit me better according to their size chart. If it helps, I am 5'11" tall with about a 40" chest and weigh about 170 lbs. For comparison, most Pearl Izumi clothes fit me a little loose in size Large.

I'm 6ft and 165. I wear a large and it's big on me which I like because I can easily layer underneath. It doesn't flap at all, but the sleeves do bunch up a bit at the wrists. I would guess you would be good with a large.

I'm 5'9", 170lbs. I have a large and it fits me fine. Pull the trigger and go for it. If it doesn't fit you can always send it back and exchange it. I know its a hassle but that's the headache of buying online.

I am 5'9 and 160 pounds and wear a medium. It is form fitting but mot tight, and easily allows two layers of merino to be worn.

If you have an REI near you, go try an Elite or transit. Just stopped by one today. They only had a transit. and the large fit me (5'11" 205 lbs) a little on the large size. Medium wa too small.

Good idea. Altho I hate to be one of those guys who tries on things in the store and then orders on-line, I spend enough money at REI that I won't feel guilty about it.

Me? once the girth was right , the sleeves were rather long. this month I took my Portland Jacket
in, for Alterations , to have the sleeves made a bit less long.

there is a local shop that does that .

I am 6'2", 215#. Wear a Large. Cut is for a cyclist bent over the bars, so the sleeves are quite long - the only jacket I have that doesn't have sleeves too short. I consider my SP jacket a piece of specialized equipment - it isn't a town jacket, as the sleeves get irritatingly in the way since they are so long, but are perfect on the bike. It is so effectively wind and water resistant that I usually only wear it on really nasty days, as I out-sweat it quickly. I love the coat, and coupled with my Craft Bullit pants, riding in the rain is no biggie.

Now for another question: What is the difference between the SP Elite 2.0 and the 2.1 and the Elite Pro? I can buy the Elite Pro on sale for about $25 less than the 2.1.

BTW, I still haven't found a SP dealer in my area to actually try on the jackets. REI used to carry them in our local stores, but not anymore, altho they do have them listed on-line. I have lost 30 lbs over the past 2-3 years and find that many clothes that used to fit me in XL or L are now too big for me. I actually like clothes to fit a little loose but don't like overly long sleeves or jackets that flap in the wind.

I am 5'10" 163lbs and I wear a medium in the Elite 2.1.

The Elite 2.1 has a more durable front zipper. I guess the 2.0 had a different type of zipper that failed often.

The Elite Pro is missing the front media-player pocket, a different type of back pocket and no velcro around the neck to attach a hood. It also doesn't have the vent flap in the back, instead it has a smaller zipper on the upper neck for venting.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a medium Showers Pass Elite 2.1 since that's what their size chart recommended. It arrived yesterday and seems kind of small on me. Maybe I'm just used to wearing jackets a little loose, but the medium SP seems very short in the front and a little tight around the chest if I inhale deep or wrap my arms around my chest. I'm afraid that it might be too small, particularly if wearing extra layers in cold weather. The arms are just about right. I could get by using the medium but might regret it during cold winter weather.

The jacket itself is great. Lots of reflective trim, bright golden yellow color, and plenty of pockets. The front chest pocket is a nice feature that many jackets seem to lack. Although it doesn't include a hood, you can buy one as an option, which is nice to know. The fabric is kind of stiff, which would make it harder to pack down than more supple jackets.
