Any rack suggestions? Keeping in mind I like the Dutch/European look for Lola with a few modern conveniences here and there! I was thinking about this one - Wald Woody Rack (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0030KZI68). I would like a rack that gives a bit more clearance and that I can actually attach a seat bag/barrel bag under my seat without interference from the rack.

I think a silver (polished aluminum) rack would look better on Lola. With some hammered silver VO fenders.

Perfect for panniers, less perfect for backpack (but very manageable - I use it in that combination since it allows to mount/dismount panniers with backpack tied ton top of the rack):

That spring is great for securing the backpack (one bungee cord and spring will keep it stable for any kind of rough riding). In another post I've already posted pictures of the setup.

I have this one (the Super Tourist DX) and love it. The rails on top allow my Topeak MTX Office bag to slide in and lock into place easily without the need for additional bungees or anything. Plus there are two sets of top side bars so even if you have something on the top of the rack, you can easily mount panniers to the lower side bars without having to remove whatever's on top. :-)

There are differences in how bikes are on the shop-floors for sale
Dutch, Amsterdammers traditional Oma/Opa have a rack that comes on a complete bike..

made of substantial steel braced strong enough to sit an adult friend on. from a century old NL company.

As you know US sells accessories to personalize the bare bones bikes , from Asian Factories.

but for.. recent exceptions like Trek Cocoa..


My comment was more physical.. the rack is too low for mudguard clearance ,
the struts need be longer to have the adequate clearance.. some materials and fabrication time
and there could be adaptations made ..

my touring bike 1 to touring bike 2 there were pieces made
and welded/brazed on my steel racks to gain more clearance , for mudguard over the tire,
and rack over the mudguard..

So from a mechanic-guys perspective , get out the tape measure see what short was in numbers ,

and look in person for longer ... . take the bike in and test fit on racks to see if they fit better .

If you like the style of the Wald Woody, check out the Portland Design Works racks. They have a range of similar racks that are rated for different load weights.

The Axiom DLX Phoenix is also wood, has silver metalwork and looks to be set up to take panniers, although you might end up having to file or cut away some of the wood. One review also mentions problems with getting it to work with road bike brakes.

There's also the Civia Bamboo Rear Rack, which might be the best of the wooden racks as far as accomodating panniers goes, but unfortunately for you, says it is designed for 26" wheels. Although some of the solutions for you current rack suggested in this thread would work on it as well.

I'm considering mounting wooden racks on our Safari, IIRC, those three were the only suitable offerings on the market right now, but I might have missed some.

i agree i think they should be perpendicular to the ground. you want cars headlights to catch in them

I fixed them after I saw this post. I think that originally when the LBS put Lola together they did not make them tight enough.

Well, I broke down and bought Lola a new rack, and fenders. I was unable to afford the fenders that I really wanted, Teak Wood Fenders, but that's okay. So, I bought Velo Orange Hammered Fenders. I went with the Biria Rear Rack, so I am going to see how it works out. I went with this rack due to the fact that it is able to hold more weight, and is a silver-tone, which I believe will look better with Lola than the black Transit TS-1 that is currently gracing her frame. I am hoping that this rack will sit higher, and my fenders will fit nicely. I will just have to wait, and see once they are delivered, and I get my LBS to install them for me (I would do the work myself, but I am swamped with my thesis research, am in the middle of writing a paper that was given via an extension due to my wrist injury, and my wrist is still a little tight, plus, I do not want to eff anything up! ). I am also having them install my Reelight 770's for me, so that will make Lola all set, and I can get back on the road safely! I haven't been riding due to my wrist, and the fact that Lola has no front light.

Very excited to get back on the road!

YAY! My fenders came today. I came home from class tonight, and sitting in front of the mailboxes in my apartment lobby were my fenders! I couldn't resist taking them out of the box to look at them, even though I am having the LBS [I found a very nice one here in A2 that mainly does restorations on older bikes, and stocks more of the "European" type bike stuff (for lack of a better term) and they were very polite and helpful the very first time I went in there, spent about an hour drooling over the Dutchie Linus, and Brooks saddles/bags, and ended up simply buying my copper Crane Bell - damn I hate being a grad student with practically no money, and what little money I do get has gone to Lola, with purchases/returns, returns/purchases, purchases/returns, returns/purchases ... so, I am crossing my fingers and toes that these purchases work out for Lola both aesthetically and transport/"work-horse" wise] install them tomorrow, or Saturday.

Anyway, please excuse the ramble, now back to my point - they are BEAUTIFUL! Just looking at them in the plastic wrap I'm drooling. Funny, how one can get so excited over bicycle accessories, but when I had a horse I got (and still do) excited over all the stuff I would buy for him, too.

Now, that I think about it, having had a horse for all those years, that is probably the reason why I prefer the nicer/European type bike accessories.

Anyway, back to drooling over my pretty accessories! Pics to come!
