Tom, something's got to be wrong with your scale! Also, don't count the lock. For weight of the "bike" I only count what's bolted on. Mine weighs 27 or 28 pounds, including the dynohub, rack, lights (they're bolted on) etc. It's an 83 Trek which I rebuilt from a frameset (you know the one, you rode it!) When I add a water bottle and a saddlebag with a tool roll and a lock, etc, I'm sure it goes up 10 pounds.

OK, I'll check again. I used the bathroom scale that I found in the laundry room in the basement of my building. I don't know anything about the scale. It says I weighed 170 lbs, which is either right or UNDER. But maybe I did the arithmetic wrong, so I'll check again.

I'm impressed that Paramount1973's High Plains above weighs as little as it does.

Weighed mine yesterday evening, 46lbs exactly. That includes toolkit (multitool, pump, tube, etc) and cable lock that I keep in the left pannier (including it since it never leaves the bike, on its own it weighs maybe 1.5 pounds at most), lights, and an empty water bottle.

The Lyon weighs in at 25.6lbs with rack, frame pump and headlight. About what I thought. I usually have 15-25lbs of gear on the daily commute. Makes the weekend rides seem easy!

Some days, with laptop: 63 lbs, other days, without laptop: 55 lbs, if the bike is clean.
add 1 lb if it is not clean, add 2 lbs when it rains and is muddy.

Only in the commuter section do commenters compete with each other to see who has the heaviest bike. Meanwhile commercial run road bikes are approaching 10 lbs...

No kidding! I try to carry as little as possible, and transport my work clothes in batches.

The bikes I use for commuting range from upper-20s to lower-30s, in pounds, unloaded. They gain a couple of pounds from lock, lights, and water when I go commuting.

You've got a pretty heavy laptop.

I'm with you... I keep a complete set of toiletries, shoes, and miscellaneous clothes and undergarments at work, and if I'm driving or busing or something one day I try to load in/out as much as possible.

What does your commuter bike weigh?

I haven't weighed it yet but my roadbike is probably close to 20 lbs.
And my folding bike; 30 lbs.

37 pounds... not including the pannier. (which I weighed fully loaded for the commute once and it was at 11 pounds... ouch)

But the ride is so smooth and easy I don't notice how much it weighs

I am running fairly light Matrix wheels off of a high end Trek, the crankset has all alloy chainrings, the tires are Kevlar beaded Panaracer T-servs and I am using a freehub with a 7-speed cassette instead of a freewheel. All that shaves a few pounds off. It's also a small frame, which helps.

My Extrabike weighs 50 pounds before I add any gear... the panniers are included in that base weight and this goes up if I add the electric assist (plus 30 pounds) or kit it out for winter with studded tyres but it still spins up rather quickly and with the electric assist I can drop most cyclists and pace cars in traffic.

I am not sure what my Moulton weighs when it is kitted out but it must sit in the mid to upper 30's.... despite that I often find myself spinning out the top gear so will be bumping that up a little with a rear cog change.

If I decide to run light I can take one of my road bikes which weighs 21 pounds or one of my mountain bikes which are sub 24 pounds and use a backpack to carry my gear.

The Moulden XC makes commuting really fun... with the tail bag carrying the spare and battery pack for the lights it is still under 25 pounds and wickedly fast.

My commuter is my Trek 520, and is easily my heaviest bike. With rack and fenders, but without bags or "stuff," it weighs in at around 30 lbs or so. The addition of the aforementioned "stuff" can add up to 10 lbs, depending on what I'm carrying with me.

Think about how those heavy commuter bikes are making you strong!

No, seriously. I push hard up hills on my 32 lb commuter bike (call it 40 w/ my backpack) and then when I get on the <18 lb weekend bike, I feel like Superman, or at least Superbaby.

I am currently commuting on a road bike that is probably about 22 lbs fully equipped. Planning to get a new commuter, likely steel, which will probably weight well over 30 lbs with rack, etc. Glad to see others have heavy bikes. Have been worried about the impact of a heavier bike on my commute (time and effort climbing hills) but it seems like many people deal with heavier bikes. I will just try to ignore all the people on the sub 15 lb carbon bikes that go by.
