But haven't you shown that it's far cheaper than just about everything but walking?

Yeah. It's cheaper than the bus even.

Walking is similar in cost as my shoes usually run £100-250/pair and a good resoling is around £100. I bought a nice pair of handmade Italian shoes in a Tuscan village but without a leather sole ... lasted about 6 months at 300km/month of walking or about 2000km total for €150.

I'll probably switch it out for Nihola bike if I am ever fortunate enough to have a child.

I hope you are so fortunate, if that is your wish. I've had two, and they're now adults.

A neighbor had one of those electric-assist cargo trikes. We lived in Maplewood, NJ at the time, a hilly town. It was great. I tried it. I stepped on the pedal, and the motor kicked right in. Both kids rode in the box. That thing could do anything.

I've actually been to Maplewood, NJ; had a friend that lived there in a previous life. Never seen an electric cargobike ... usually use them in CPH which is crazy flat. Rode some pedelec (pedal-electric) bikes in Frankfurt when they first started coming out, quite cool but somewhat costly.

Let's see how the kids shape up, they're in the pipeline now that we're getting older.

Oh, I don't know about that. Over in C&V, there is an annual contest (this year's edition currently running) to see who can build the best/worst bike for $100 all in (bike purchase and all parts needed to get it operational) and ride it 100 km.

You could try taking the cement out of the hubs, OOF. 8 pounds.

It seems so far-fetched that I even doubted myself when I wrote this review https://www.bikeforums.net/18358767-post1.html but I checked it again later. Heavy wheels, heavy tires. I cut more than a pound off just by swapping tires ... tho I have the old ones back on it now ... figured from the start that I'd eventually get a new wheelset, but I haven't got around to it yet.

Picked up a 26" MTBSO from WalMart for $49 after they couldn't sell it because the riser bars were on upside down. Greased, adjusted and rode it a couple 10 mile loops just out of curiosity (mushy full suspension) before stripping the drivetrain to use on a restored Huffy and the saddle and aluminum wheelset for a junkyard $5 Schwinn. The purchase price wouldn't have bought brand new wheels anywhere else, so not a bad deal to get two restorations on the road.

Exactly my thoughts. You had something else in mind?

I don't sweat the small stuff. I went back and deleted the one photo of my face on Page 10 of this thread. Overall, not super famous, yet ... I'm sure this thread will come up in the future though, which is one reason why I keep it going
