My $5 32-LED Flashlight Exploded
Just kidding. It's been working great for about two weeks on the original set of batteries.

I find a lot of great lights at CVS and other unexpected places for 1/4 what a bike specific light would cost.
The proprietary mounting and saying "Bike" on the packaging seems to add lots of money to the price of similar wattage units.
With so many awesome colors and patterns, if you take time to pick/color match your mounting shoe laces, it really works out well

I've seen a rechargable lithium battery leave flame marks in a drawer once, so I figured an exploding light might be possible. Glad to see you're kidding.

FYI: This thread is a reference to my previous thread, in which I announced the purchase of this experimental light for my commuter and was torn to shreds by a bunch of disbelievers. Here's the link:

It's just a manner of time before the light does explode and may injure fellow bikers or pedestrians. But hey, at least it was only $5 bucks.

I can see the headline now: "Cheapskate Cyclist Wipes Out Neighborhood With Crappy Exploding Flashlight".

I dont have to read the thread to know what is in it . . .
Just ignore that stuff. Bike people are our own worst enemy. If a martian came to earth and wanted to ditch his spaceship for a bicycle, and came to BF for advice, the resident uptightasauraus's would have him dressing like a powerranger, spending 1500 for a bike and riding in the middle of any road he ends up on.
As a disciple of cheap-fu, I appreciate any reviews and tips on creative cheapery! Ride for yourself, dont worry what they say

Yes, I don't need to read the post to know what's in it either.
No need for multiple posts on the same thing.

I admit I use to try to get by with the cheap stuff. After buying a number of Dealextreme flashlights that broke within 6 months I gave up. To the OP, please wear a safety vest while you cruise around. They can be had for like $5 from Amazon.

I got mine for free, but I'm sure it can't be as orange as the ones that sell for $285 at the LBS.

Speaking of "how do you pronounce that".....
Is that pronounced "cheap foo" or "cheap eff you?" It seems to swing both ways around here at times. Related disciplines include Fredjitsu and LBSkwando.

is the light made by TESLA? or FIAT (X1/9s burst into flame) or PONTIAC (forget the model that did the same)?
pintos don't count- external heat sources.
suppose we could label it the fiero (fee-air-oh), snort. better quit and leave some for the others...
