New theory: for visibility, dress like a goofball

For my birthday last May my MIL got me a watermelon helmet. Since then I've noticed that it makes people happy, and in so doing it rises to their attention, and thus increases my visibility.

Does anyone know where I can get some SPD clown shoes?

You don't need clown shoes, just get orange shoe covers.

If you really want to take it to extremes, just ride a recumbent.

I've seen those and thought of getting one, if it would help to keep from getting run over that's a bonus, and it's about time for a new brain bucket.

My local commuter bike used to be an "upside-down" bike that a friend made for me from an abandoned bike. He flipped the forks/handlebars over, then welded a three-foot tall stem extender and a three-foot seat post extender onto the bottom bracket. It was about the height of an "ordinary" bike and definitely got the attention of motorists. It was even better during the winter solstice season when we would drape battery-powered christmas lights on the bike and its rider.

The only downside was when trees or tunnels were too low for easy passage, but that was more than made up for when the fruit was ripe.

I thought the hi-viz colors already gave you a two-fer of visibility and goofball.

At least T-rex can shift if he can reach the bars with his tiny arms. Alien Gumby might as well be riding a single speed if those are trigger shifters.
