No mentions of Minneapolis yet? (maybe I missed it while skimming)

It's VERY bike friendly. Plenty of trails and bike lanes. Google says "Minneapolis has 92 miles of on-street bikeways and 85 miles of off-street bikeways." which seems accurate... if not there is probably more than that. People usually give you a bit of space. Oddly enough most times when I am passed closely are on one-ways. Not sure why this is... maybe someone could shed some light on that. But in most cases people will give you enough room and will simply move lanes if you choose to take one and are too slow for their liking.

Of course there's still plenty of hate and "get off the road!" comments. Sadly those people will always be present. However, for the most part people are respectful.

I live in Wellington, New Zealand. There is not very good cycle lane here. Always competing with vehicle is annoying.

I might be the only one around who actually likes commuting by bike in the Dallas, TX area. Fortunately, and by sheer coincidence, I live in Plano and commute to Richardson. Both suburbs have amazingly active recreational bike scenes, so each has taken to establishing paths, whether multi-use paths for on-street bike paths on light traffic streets.

Just make sure you wear a "Nobama" jersey and you'll be safe from wandering luxury cars and lifted trucks. If you can be misconstrued as a democrat, you're a gonner :)

I think I put a plug in for Minneapolis when the thread first started. Maybe not. It's made some huge gains in the last 10 years. There've been bike paths around the lakes forever and a few bikes lanes that would end in the most inconvenient spots, - but it's starting to come together pretty well. My biggest pet peeve is that while there are some major trails that come into and through downtown, access points are limited and not always easy to find.

For example, as of a couple years ago the Cedar Lake trail has been extended through downtown all the way to the river. It's right outside my building along with a bikeshare station, but the trail is below grade and fenced off. I've had several people ask as I've walked by how to get on the trail. You've got to go at least 4 blocks and the closest way is this hidden entrance at the back of an obscure parking lot.

Anyway there are lots of people from Minneapolis that participate in the forums.
