Today was a little warmer, thankfully. 64 degress, partly sunny, slight WNW wind.

Pretty uneventful commute. Raced a front end loader for a short bit.

I'm one commute away from 1,000 commuting miles this year. Won't get it tomorrow though, I've got plans after work so I have to drive. Should be "celebrating" on Thursday.

wow it was 60 degrees in NC this morning too. lower humidity and cool enough that for a moment wished I had my knee or arm warmers. I wore my vest and that worked well but eventually got warm enough to take that off as well..

this made me laugh out loud at my desk this morning. pretty funny.

my sette bike computer quit working today as well. It only lasted for 300 miles. I sure missed knowing how fast I was going and my ride time. Amazing how much I looked at the mount. Any one have computer recommendation?


I tried to catch up with a school bus. I am not sure why there is a school bus running in the summer and I am wondering if it will continue when the school year starts. If it does it will require me to adjust my ride times.

I've been using a Bontrager Trip2 on my road bike for nearly 4,000 miles now, and just recently got another one to use on my KHS bike. They're wired, which is better for me because my Cygolite ExpiliOn 700 front light causes analog wireless computers to go haywire when it's on flash mode.

Very sunny but very cold for a 29th of july at 12° celcius. With a strong cross Wind. I saw three other cyclists this morning and two yesterday wich is very unusual on my rural road. I guess there must be tourists or people on vacation.

For the first time in all my years of bicycle commuting, I had a pre-planned commuting buddy. My girlfriend and I set out together and only split late in the ride when we had to head off in different directions to go to our respective workplaces.

I've often enjoyed the opportunity to be alone in the (mostly) quiet mornings on the bike, but this was a nice change. We had 45 minutes of climbing and it was nice to have someone else along -- misery loves company, as they say.

We may be able to do this a couple of times a week. The other days I'll get the solitary time.

Very cool, almost cold this morning. It is July right? Anyway, good ride. Hammered my first big hill a little too hard so climbing the second, longer hill wasn't quite so elegant. Oh well. I'm getting way better at navigating my route to minimize stopping. I can do it with zero stops if I time it right.

I think I hit it a few weeks ago, but my monthly mile tracking is poor.
@PatrickGSR94 I had a guy pass me on a 90° 15 mph curve the other day. I was livid. I do not understand what they think.

I had a nice ride last night and today also. We got to watch the 6 pm passenger/tourist train after I picked my son up.

This morning I left my son's seat at the daycare so I was riding about 12 pounds lighter without a piece of drag. I felt slow for the first two thirds of the way to work but got a PR on a hill. Completely unexpected, I was not even giving it my all, maybe barely half.

But I did push it on the last stretch over the bridge (~2 km). I got the number 3 strava time for the whole span, and 5 and 7 for two segments within. And the top two times are drives. I felt good about that.

@50voltphantom I messed up my stop sign pattern this morning. I went right instead of straight and had to stop at four consecutive signs instead of one. I wish I could do it with no stops. I have at least 15 stops.

I don't think July could be much better than this. We will all have to remember how it was this winter...

Went a few blocks out of the way this afternoon to get these pics. The boats stop regularly to let the travelers see the downtown area, shop and eat. One of the old ones has been taken off the river. This is a "new" boat. Still kinda neat. Big rascal.

Yesterday afternoon I had some moron yell at me to scare me. This morning however was awesome. The temperature was cool (60 degrees) and the legs felt pretty good.

rode some extra on the way home last night and ended 31 miles for the day yesterday. My legs felt kinda tired today but I still felt good and strong while riding in this morning. I tried to mix some protein recovery in a cup and it did not work and tasted aweful. I was really looking forward to the recovery benefits of the blend. 66 miles so far this week. I am hoping to ride all week.

60F this morning as well. It was pretty chilly with just the vest. I think I should have gone with arm warmers or knee warmers because I was cold.

I was happy to set a personal record on a little camel-hump hill segment last evening. My previous was with my fairing bike - sort of a cheat - so it felt like a milestone. Still four seconds off the KOM and even though I know it's silly I'm tempted to make a special effort at it ... any strong rider could destroy the leaderboard, but still ...

@wphamilton I would say give it a few days then go for it. Who cares if another rider destroys it, personal pride lasts (so does a screen shot and redundant backups).

I was happy to get my KOM yesterday. I never thought I would get one since most of my routes are training rides by TTer's or done as small hill repeats. But the bridge I go over only has a few hundred in the list and I was number three with the two above me being in cars. I got the cars removed and got a KOM on a 35 pound tourer (no kids seat and one pannier). It felt good. I still feel good being in the top 25 percent at the worst in the TT interval segments.

Meanwhile I felt fast yesterday and I was tearing up the hill to check out an old Dave Scott. I passed a guy who later caught me after I got caught at a sequence of four lights in 1.5 km. When he caught me he asked if I had a motor on that thing. Smile, no but I usually have a kid on the back, so I 40 pounds lighter than normal. Always nice being complemented for speed on the commute.

Anyway checked out the bike. A bit too small, it was two block from home. So the final four blocks (cumulative) of my commute I had two near misses and one aggressive tailgater. I posted in the need for urban lighting about it. I had turned my lights off to look at the bike, rode one block to the store and three blocks back home. In that stretch I had a lady come at me head on, another tailgate and a guy run a stop sign. I did not have my lights on and attribute it to that.

The this morning I had a lot of people turn off side streets misjudge my speed and need to accelerate when they realized they cut me off and I was going fast.

It was a nice ride otherwise. Cool, quite. My son even commented on the quite roads. He said, "Dad, I cannot figure out why it is so quite right now."

This afternoon was one of my best commutes ever. There are three reasons for this. The first reason is I rode my fastest time on my new Trek 7.3 commuter bike. The second reason is my legs felt awesom this afternoon. And last but not least I had two deer fawns running in circles chasing each other in a field beside me.

Bit of a headwind on the MUP this afternoon. They are supposed to have the tunnel that will link together 2 segments of the MUP completed in less than 2 weeks. I have been taking pics of the project and will post them when its done.

We were discussing the boats at work today. Someone says they are trying to get the old Delta Queen and the Mississippi Queen back in service. The "Race" used to be neat. It would be fun to take a cruise on one of them. Good food and plenty of "refreshments" along the way. Fairly pricey. You could take a 5-7 day cruise to the Bahamas for quite a bit less coin.

Well, I haven't posted here for a while!
Broke my right hip socket in Jan last year on a Saturday morning cycle, needed surgery, and that put me off the bike for a year.
The surgeon said it's a common cycling accident - acetabular fracture....I'd never heard of it before.

Finally started commuting properly last week..............nice to be back !
Nice morning in Dublin today....cool and just after rain.

The commute this morning was pleasant with the sunshine and clear skies. Pop-up showers expected on the way home, those will decide the route I take.

Maybe it was the same guy that yelled at me a month ago.

We all notice new or different things on our route, be it trash, roadkill or what ever. Today a fresh, black skid mark on the road caught my eye. It led from the lane I was in across the oncoming lane and into some grass. I could see dirt tracks where the tires continued to skid across the grass. They went between two trees, one of which had a little damage at about the height of a side-view mirror. About 20 feet beyond that a third tree did not fare so well. There was no evidence of any vehicle, but a splintered and fallen tree remained. I just shook my head and thought to myself, "Ouch."

A little more humid today compared to the past couple of days and a chance of rain this afternoon.

Sunny, 66, little breeze from the west (side breeze). Legs felt a little sluggish at the start, but I ended up averaging a hair over 16 mph on the way in. Excellent commute this morning. Got a bit of a later start than usual. The GF was sick last night, went to bed early and I didn't get to pack last night because I didn't want to wake her. So I packed this morning.

I think I saw the kid who salmoned me the other night and scared the crap out of me. Guess what he was doing? Thankfully he was going the same direction as me, but was on the other shoulder, headed toward oncoming traffic. Then he makes a right hand turn, ALL the way across four lanes of traffic. It was that move that made me think it was him, and as I passed where he turned and looked, it looked like he had on the same hat and was wearing headphones again. Kid's going to get killed out there. He appears to be Hispanic and I wonder if he knows what the rules are.

Today I'm joining the 1,000 mile club. Kind of crazy to think about that. Last year I didn't start commuting until around this time, and only got in around 400 miles or so. Quite a difference a year makes. Unless I commute tomorrow, I'll be off until the second week of August. I've got some time off planned with my kids. Hopefully I'll get a few fun rides in here and there before they wake up in the mornings. And a few rides with them in the afternoons
