    Need Help ASAP

Hi I'm 5'3-5'4 ish with a leg length of 76 cm which is around 30" I live in La california. I'm a 2 year old boy so i can't drive to buy a used bike.
    52 cm road bike frame
    170mm crank size
this information is recommended by http://www.ebicycles.com/
I am on a budget of around $250-$300 tops and I want a decent road bike that looks nice. Looking to buy a new/used depending. Was looking a gmc denali road bike. I know the brake and tires suck so can you recommend some affordable but decent wheels and brakes and also an decent trigger shifter.

Denali is a waste of your money. Hit Craigslist to find a good used bike instead.

After you get decent wheels and brakes for your BSO the entire budget will be used up. You are best to get a decent bike in the first place, the sum of the parts is far greater than the whole. Buying junk and upgrading it leaves you with nothing but several good parts...and junk.

    ^^THIS^^

In your budget you have only uno, ein, un, een or one(1) option and that is USED.

The size calculator that you linked to is not even as good as a $250 bike and less useful. Use this calculator for a good start for a decent fit.

+1. Tell us where you are and you will get some suggestions.

You are much more likely to find what you need used, and the good folks here can help you separate the decent from the cr@p.

Agreed. The Denali is an ugly bike. However, I am not as quick as some to dismiss BSO's (bicycle shaped objects) out of hand. The Schwinn Varsity/Protege is what some might call a BSO but Schwinn Chicago stands behind them. They are attractive bikes and retail in the OP's price range.

Bikes on Craigslist are there because someone wants to get rid of them. Usually because there is some kind of problem with them. The o.p. does not sound like a good Craigslist candidate. I have bike wrenching skills and even I usually walk away from the Craigslist bikes I take a look at. I would much rather buy a used bike from a non-profit bike co-op or an LBS that does refurbishments. The prices will be higher than what you see in Craigslist. Schmooze them. You can get that price down and get a good bike for a reasonable amount of money.

Be careful with that calculator as it only spits out seat tube length which is not reliable in calculating what size bike you should be riding these days. For example I'm just under 5'9" and like to ride bikes with 54cm effective top tube. The manufacturer of my road bike calls it a 51 but it fits like a 54. See how confusing this can be?

You may want to ride some bikes and get a better feel for size before you buy.

LBS Here, takes in and resells used bikes all year, but as usual more traffic in summer than the rainy season.

    Drop in and see..

at least you can learn size of you in relation to what size bike you should shop for..

+1 You should find something good on Craigslist. If you see something interesting on there, post the pic's over at Classic and Vintage to get an idea of what it's really worth.

Possibly true, but it may also be the case that the bike was bought, and just not ridden much at first, and is now just taking up space and the seller is clearing out the garage.
As much as you paid for that Beemer [Mercedies, Audi, Escalade], I'm surprised it didn't come equipped with turn signals.

I agree about checking with the LBS. But I think there are quite a lot of very good bikes on craigslist. There are many people that buy bicycles, including quite high end bicycles, but have little experience riding. While they were enamored by the sexy image in the window, they find that actually riding the bicycle and god forbid, going up hills, is too much work for them and they sell it.

Check Google to see if there are any co-ops or bike kitchens in your area. They might have a used bike that fits your budget, plus you'll be able to make sure it fits you right.

You're kind of big for a 2-year old boy, but type much better than I did at that age.
