What would you pay?

https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/bik/4289425402.html

Seems like a pretty solid deal at that asking price? The components seem a bit out dated but it's not a big deal since it's going to be my new commuter.

Thanks

Don't know about local prices, but here in the SF bay area, that would be a really good buy. And the current owner probably just rides on the hoods.

Id offer 275.00. He'll take it, for sure.
Even if he didn't, thats a nice ride for 300.
I used to live in the West Palm area, WPB/Broward CL and The Bike Man kept me on really nice commuters

I hope you enjoy it

He tilts the saddle DOWN so he automatically slides to the bars.

Three hundred isn't bad, I doubt you could reproduce it for that. Start low and work from there (normal CL function practice). I don't really see anything about awfully outdated parts. Lower/level the saddle to see if it fits and go for it.

Ride it. Usually conversions like that have way too long a tt. If it fits, good deal; if it doesn't, don't buy it.

If there's any wonkiness at all with the shifting, steer clear or expect to be buying new Claris or Microshift shifters in short order. When you are riding, if any of the gears hang up, or the seller says you have to have some kind of special touch with certain gears, the shifters are failing and you will need new ones very soon.

I agree with the other comments about fit and giving it a thorough test ride, but I think that is fair asking price. Start at $250. As with any used bike there are going to be parts that will wear out sooner and it's wise to budget for a few expected and unexpected upgrades, but from the looks of it there are plenty of miles left in that bike.

That bike with those components is a good deal @ $300.00. The big question is: Does it fit you?

If it doesn't fit, don't buy it, no matter how good a "deal" it is.

A) make sure it fits.

B) check the brakes. STI's are short pull,V brakes are long pull. Friend of mine did a conversion like that and had crap brakes that had to be pulled to the bar. Problem Solvers makes pulleys that will fix it,but figure about another $50 or so for a set plus new cables.

That's about the same amount of drop I have on my flat bar Hooligan 3. Fits me just fine.

Just my opinion but that bike was originally specd with flat bars. On the large , Giant shows the top tube as 58.5, which is pretty long for a guy who's 5'10", especially after adding the drop bars and having the hoods extended that much further. Just seems awfully weird the way he's got it set up.

Okay, so I'm gonna take back what I said. You may want to drop the price. From the pictures, it looks like he still has vbrakes on, which shouldn't work well with the levers he has on there. Also, take the 5'10"-fits-me-fine comment with a pinch of salt. I'm the same height, and I think that would be too big for me - too stretched out.

Just realized - dynaryder already mentioned the brakes, so +1 to what he said.

I wouldn't pay $300 simply for the fact he says "price negotiable". But it is probably good deal at $300

Turns out the shifting was a bit off, so I pointed that out and managed to talk him down to $200. It's was even nicer in person. Rode great and the brakes had no issues at all. After I make a few adjustments it will fit nicely.

Just read the post. After seeing your OP, $200 was what I would have suggested as a start and expect to pay $225.

The bike is clearly too small for the seller with the saddle that high, biggest reason it sold for $200. Good buy for you.

I test rode one at Bike Warehouse on Plaza in Oceanside, and you are correct, it originally came with a flat bar, And to the OP, it was an awesome ride, and I would pay that for it if it is in good shape.
