I work in a large office building. There is a row of bike staple racks along one as you enter the parking garage, right by the parking attendant kiosks. Convenient and no thefts that I've ever heard of. Or you can wheel your bike inside to a locked (card-access) bike parking room with many racks and a handy air compressor. Next to that room are large men's and women's locker rooms with showers, and a small gym. I can also bring my bike up the elevator and park it in our office suite, either in the server room or in my office. So, no complaints.

My place has a fenced in rack in the parking garage. I've never used it. My boss allows me to park it in an out of the way storage room as long as there is room. Since I'm the one who does most of the organizing in that room, there's always room.

Last place I worked, my bike in my office was seen as "unprofessional" even though we promoted sustainable design . Current employer is totally okay with bike in the office, although I need to take some measures to address the dark brown sorry snowmelt of late.

This is interesting. Mine doesn't come inside at all except for maintenance, so it doesn't occur to me that some riders will refuse to leave their bikes out and vulnerable. This is what you mean, right?

The bike rack in my building garage is not attached to anything, and keeps being moved to different locations, accompanied by the unlocked, presumably abandoned bike with flat tires. I was thinking of inflating the tires as a theft deterrent, so someone looking for a bike would take it and leave my locked bike alone. It's a good sign, at least, that the abandoned bike appears to be untouched for some time.

Pull right in to one of the spare bays, park next to the shower. 40 people in my company, and the office is in an industrial area, so it's got its own fence etc.

No racks here. I'm the only cyclist out of about 600 employees. I can't complain though, they put a rubber mat in the space under the stairs and I park there, inside.

today's bike parking, even without the snow it is poorly designed and installed behind the dumpster fort. On the other hand it is a low risk area and at least I have a bike rack, so not really complaining.

True. Where I work, we have employee forums every quarter. I brought my desire for a bike rack up to our CEO and, lo and behold, we now have a rack near the front of the building, right by the 'employee of the quarter' type parking spaces, directly under a light, and very likely observed by the parking lot cameras.

OTOH, I rode to Walmart today, about 2 miles from my home with most of those 2 miles being other homes, to do pick up some computer paper and a few groceries. The store was packed with people, including a lot of school-aged kids. No bicycle parking of any kind. It makes me wonder if the local elementary schools even have bicycle parking for kids.

No, like literally there are no bike racks. Metal fences and street signs aren't the same as bicycle racks, and locking your bike to either of these is often illegal. Its the same thing if you are deter from going somewhere in a car because of the parking. This extends to mixed transportation. The bus around here only accommodates two bicycles. So if everyone goes to work at roughly the same time, only two people can commute on a route in a given area.

that is pretty cool.

When I ride I park my bike in a virtual lab. People log into these computers from all over and do their courses but the lab is still set up and spaced out like a real lab and you could put people in front of the computers if you wanted. me and 2 other guys park in there.

That's great. Those plow drivers must have received special training or something to be able to build that nice platform to put your front wheels on!

Considering that I'm still a teen and work at McDonald's, in Arkansas(Known for being one of the lesser friendly states when it comes to bikes), my workplace and co-workers keep telling me to get a car and they do not really like or support me commuting on my bike. In fact, the CEO tried to tell me to move the bike way back by the dumpster. I was able to argue and so they compromised and gave me a decent yet uncovered spot/sign post(not the kind that the bike can be lifted over)

I'm the boss so I usually park my bike in the break room. There are only five of us. None of my employees show any desire to bike. I sometimes bring a trainer to work and if it's slow but I still need to be on the office I'll do a 30 to 45 minute trainer ride. I often take about an hour lunch time ride.

If I'm taking my crappy Trailway, I park outside on a rack unless it's very snowy. If it's snowy, I park it under the stairs unlocked.

If I'm on my Trek, I always carry it up to the lab (bit of extra exercise, and I don't always carry a lock on it anyways).

Not much to look at on the racks (one is perplexingly perpendicular to the smokers bench, the other wedged between two utility buildings) and there's no cameras allowed in the lab, so no pictures I'm afraid.

My work place only has the racks that allow attaching one wheel but about half the racks were removed recently. Bikes are not allowed indoors. Sometimes a motorcycle rider will take up the half of the remaining racks by parking perpendicular to the racks.

Someone vandalized all the bikes once by greasing the brake tracks a while back and the security people just kinda shrugged.

I think my company really appreciates having a bike commuter. It gives them a little more environmentalist credibility, and I've done a couple of local interviews set up by the Clean Air Campaign which they also like. They moved the rack to a bay right next to the employee door, the closest possible parking in the entire space, with video security and frequent patrols, so I've got no complaints there.

It would be too divergent from the general culture here to try to wheel it inside - I don't think that most people would understand why a cyclist would want to. Park and walk 20 feet works for me.

What I find interesting about our office complex is the ongoing talk about the lack of parking, and the very detailed scheme of of who can park where and and how many spots need to be open next to the entrances for clients. And yet they do nothing to promote bike parking, they just threw up a rack that wasn't well thought out. You cant even use a u-lock unless you get the end posts. Sometimes I fantasize about putting a planter in front of one car parking spot so only compact can use it, a low overhang on another so trucks can't park there, a crazy grade on another so only 4x4s can get in. And I would like for the majority of them to experience the pleasing smell of the dumpsters in june at the end of the day as they prepare to leave work.
