If I have to choose from the list suggested, Giant TCX wins my vote.
Interesting

I am an old man who longs for the good ole daze of cycling, and only use old, rusty stuff to carry cave man club and saggy purple parts. . . .

Why do I feel like a lecherous dirty old man leering at a hot young girl when I look at the TCX?

Damn these pic posters

it's trivial to mount fenders using either the axle or the fork/stay. two of my carbon bikes have conventional fender mounts and i actually choose to use fenders that are mounted using these other methods.

I use this set on my Commuter bike. You just got to make sure you have enough clearance.

Its a Planet Bike SpeedEZ

Let's not forget that Giant is the only company on that list which is still actually a bike manufacturer. Specialized, trek etc. are essentially just marketing companies with a little bit of R&D thrown into whatever same factory they all outsource to. Giant actually builds their own bikes in their own factories. That may not mean a ton, since today's crop of outsource factories make great stuff, but IMO giant is one of the last great LARGE bike companies. Oh, and they still make frames for Trek on occasion.

I think someone else posted the BD Gravity Zilla (I think the XX upgrade is worth the $ for the Avid brakes vs. Tektro). Also Motobecane Fantom CX Outlaw is an option. Cross bike, aluminum frame, fender/rack mounts, carbon fork. Mostly 105/tiagra components, $899.

What methods did you then chose?

I had a pair of the SpeedEZ in the post below yours and I hated that mount system. It tended to move if the fender got slightly nudged and even after putting down some tape to protect my frame from those soft rubber mounts that aren't supposed to hurt your frame, dirt would get in there and eat through that and get at my paint. Getting a bike with proper fender mounts and properly installing good fenders has made a world of difference in my opinion.

But yeah, I'd be really curious to know what type of mount you went with. I haven't seen any alternative mount methods that I would want to put on a nice bike.

i use the "sks raceblade" and the "sks raceblade long". for the sks raceblade i use the rubber protective mounts along with clear protectors that are included in the kit. i've had absolutely no problems with movement of the fenders and i ride all winter in the pacific northwest. the sks "raceblade long" use the axle as the mount point and is split in the back so has virtually no impact on tire clearance. i use the longs on my rain/winter commuter and can mount 32c cx tires. i'm happy with both fenders but i prefer the conventional race blade because they are easier to remove (albeit with sub-par coverage up front...but what the heck bottom brackets are cheap). that being said all my bikes are nude carbon and i'm not concerned by minor cosmetic damage since i typically replace forks after 10 years or so (irrespective of material).
