The Commuter Poetry Thread
This was inspired by buzzman's poem in the "To my winter brethren" thread. I'm sure there are other talented writers amongst us, so let's enjoy some fancy prose !
I will start:
Brings a little tear to your eye, doesn't it?
I will start:
Spring is coming I can tell.
Cycle commuter numbers are starting to swell.
And though I'd like to be like tsl, who smiles through winter’s worst.
After 50 days below zero, my face will need to thaw first.
So I’m really looking forward to riding on roads not frozen,
-and to donning my bib shorts; the cyclists' version of lederhosen.

When you don't have time and lack poetic ability, Google comes in handy.
There once was a motorist in L.A.
Who drove to work every day.
Though he didn't live far,
He'd travel by car,
And swear at all who got in his way.
He tried to stay calm and genteel,
But each time he took to the wheel
He'd scream and he'd curse
As the traffic got worse
Until rage was all that he'd feel.
He never stopped to ask why or to think
That we all might be close to the brink.
He was truly a twit,
For he cared not a whit
About getting his life back in synch.
Then one day from out of the blue,
He flashed on just what he should do--
He'd give up his place
In this asinine race,
And adopt an alternative view.
No more would he just sit and stare
While his car kept on fouling the air.
At this moment in time,
With an insight sublime,
He dared to assume his fair share.
He found a new use for his bike
that was kinder by far on his psych.
On his daily commute
He now wears a gym suit,
And can park wherever he'd like.
Though his pace may not seem quite as fast
And his colleagues at first were aghast,
He's managed to cope
And inspire new hope,
For he seldom to work arrives last.
To those too blind yet to see,
He offers advice here for free:
Don't be a knave
Or petroleum slave,
You still have a choice--follow me!

see if you can get a bunch of people to get a festival together in your town..
Fisher-Poets festival just a couple weeks ago filled the hotels restaurants and bars,
in town , here , for the 17th year ..
seems theatrically presented poetry readings & songs, have a big audience.
.. at least a Poetry Slam in a local bar with other people you know, would be fun.

Work is slow today (rather, I'm slow today - trying to get started after a nice vacation) - so here is a quick attempt by yours truly
-------------------------------------------------------
Evening rush hour, needless to state
Traffic is stopped and running very late.
Motorists fret, motorists fume
Fizzy drinks and burgers they often consume.
Burning money, putting on weight
Stuck in a spot with no place to accelerate.
Who is that man, zipping through the lane?
Twisting, spinning, but smiling under the strain.
Why it's that fella who is ever so practical
Saving money, yet having fun, riding his bicycle.
Why can't we be more like that?
Surely bicycle commuting is where it's at!

How about a haiku?
tires hum on pavement
a car horn pierces the air
my pulse quickens

I really like my Panaracer Pasela tires, so here is something I found when reading reviews:

Vain, But Lacking Talent
Impromptu haiku:
Another headwind.
Well, it can't get any worse.
****, now it's raining.
Another headwind.
Well, it can't get any worse.
****, now it's raining.

Vain, But Lacking Talent
Impromptu haiku 2:
It's getting dark now.
Low Battery light flashing.
Twenty miles to go.
It's getting dark now.
Low Battery light flashing.
Twenty miles to go.
